Why The Christian Left is wrong
live action ^ | Rebecca Downs

Posted on 04/05/2013 6:51:04 PM PDT by Morgana

The Christian Left is a group devoted to informing their site’s and Facebook page’s visitors that there is such a thing as the Christian Left. They quote a verse from the Parable of the Good Samaritan: “Jesus told him, ‘Go and do likewise,’” (Luke 10:37). Their mission is “[t]o follow Jesus by taking actions on behalf of the oppressed, the sick, the hungry, the poor, the incarcerated, the lonely, the disabled, the mentally ill, the mistreated, the war-torn, and the weak.”

Hmm, what is missing here? Oh, right: the unborn.

The Christian LeftWhat’s wrong with The Christian Left, though, is not just that they neglect to include the unborn in those on whose behalf we should act, as Jesus would do. After all, one could imagine they could include the unborn under the “oppressed” label.

But no, the worst part is that they advocate for abortion. And they do so while demonizing the Christian right.

On their homepage, under “What We’re All About,” The Christian Left mentions, with original emphasis, that:

We’re not about Dogma here. We’re just Christians who think the political and Christian right-wing have their priorities wrong.

Bottom Line: We welcome ALL to their place at God’s table, just as they are. All means ALL. No exceptions. We reject all attempts to define our Faith by the two wedge issues of Gay Marriage and Abortion.

So The Christian Left doesn’t want to be defined by “Gay Marriage” and “Abortion,” while suggesting that that’s what the Christian right is defined by – whose adherents also, according to The Christian Left, “have their priorities wrong.” Well, for a group that doesn’t want to be defined by these “wedge issues,” they certainly spend plenty of time talking about them – on their website, their blog and their Facebook page.

Now, the Facebook page and website and blog posts do discuss Christianity and Jesus Christ, but upon glancing through, there are a significant amount of anti-GOP and Christian right posts and links. It seems that The Christian Left are Christians, yes, but more leftist – and, I dare say, hell-bent on pointing out the faults of the Christian right and the GOP.

The Christian Left criticizes those Christians who deal with the issue of abortion with such posts as this political cartoon and this picture in their timeline photos. They also shared this link from the Huffington Post about sex education programs, as well as this meme about being pro-life and against universal health care.

There are also these posts on the group’s Facebook page:

As a child, when I went to church with my grandmother, we never heard sermons about abortion or homosexuality. It was all about Jesus. That changed sometime near the election of Ronald Reagan when politicians figured out some people could be ‘useful idiots’ by dividing us on these issues while we were being shafted behind the scenes. I don’t remember one sermon about either subject, ever. – Laurie Ann Giampietro, member of The Christian Left [TCL: Many of these same Christians have now turned these two wedge issues into their own personal ego idols. Jesus has been blurred out of the picture entirely.]

crossThese “useful idiots” acted on their faith in being against abortion and/or homosexuality, or at the very least they sought to appeal to those who did act on their faith. Jesus has not “been blurred out of the picture entirely” in discussing these issues.

It actually very much concerns me that a church would fail to discuss abortion. When there is no mention, it seems that the church would prefer to sweep the issue under the rug and pretend that abortions aren’t happening. On the other hand, when the church preaches against abortion, it’s to remind Christians that abortion is not something Jesus would ever support, as well as that there is healing and forgiveness available for those who have suffered from abortion. But The Christian Left doesn’t want you to know that.

And now for perhaps the most startling post of all from the group, which shows that its members very much fail to understand their professed religion and leader, Jesus Christ:

To those who come by the page to lecture us about abortion and gay marriage, please take it somewhere else. Being gay isn’t a sin. Abortion isn’t a sin. You and your false teachers need to get a grip. Learn the truth. We’re moving on. You’ve dragged Christianity down long enough with your bigoted views and need to control women. Start with Numbers 5. In it you will find the description of a Bible sanctioned abortion.

Here we see that The Christian Left is at it again, criticizing those they disagree with by calling pro-lifers bigots. And perhaps the reason Christians who are faithful on the issue of abortion, and who understand that it is something God and His Son could never support, seek to “lecture” is because The Christian Left is so very wrong. Yet this group will have none of it, and its members seem so sure of their stance, even when it couldn’t be farther from the truth. As this page points out (warning: graphic pictures) and this one, abortion is indeed a sin. And while pro-choice Bible studies like to point out that abortion is sanctioned, other pages will point out that this is simply untrue.

What I see at the heart of the issue is this, though: it is bad enough to claim to be a Christian and be in support of abortion. It gets worse when you claim to be a Christian, are in support of abortion, and say that any other Christian who is pro-life has his or her priorities wrong and is a bigot. Being Christian really ought to mean being pro-life. Do I believe that there can be Christians who are left-leaning? I do. The Christian Left can stop trying to convince us that it’s possible.

Just don’t tell me that “[a]bortion is not a sin” when I know that it is. And it is outright deceitful for such a group to sell to other Christians, with such certainty and authority, that they can rightfully be Christian and support abortion.

It’s funny how such a group refers to “political and Christian right-wing” as the ones who “have their priorities wrong[,]“ as if they don’t want to be associated with such terms. Yet this is a group that could easily be categorized as political. And they say they reject being defined by these issues?

Well, they seem to be defined by defining other groups by these issues, all while also discussing these issues, just from another standpoint which isn’t exactly compatible with Christianity. Thus, they’re defined not only by criticizing people for believing that abortion is a sin, which it is, but also by their fervent and misguided support.

If The Christian Left has anything to say about this blog post, they’ll likely call me out for being a Republican and a bigot and wrong and judgmental and whatever else they can think of. Well, I say let them.

God defines sin in 1 John 3:4 as the willful breaking of God’s Law. That Law is condensed in the Ten Commandments. Two of the Ten directly protect property rights: the Command that forbids theft and the one that forbids coveting. One command forbids telling lies and another forbids a person from having any other god except the True God. The Commandments can be found in Exodus chapter 20.

The Apostle Paul twice (in Eph 5:5 and Col. 3:5) states that covetousness is a form of idolatry.

Of the many attributes of liberalism, a prominent one is how easily such people are willing to appropriate the property of others to achieve some social goal. This is a form of covetousness. The coveting of the assets and income of others leads to using government to secure the money. This is theft. That society would be better off because of institutional coveting is a lie.

But this covetousness is just a symptom of the moral bankruptcy of liberals. Liberals are gods unto themselves, another form of idolatry. Since they never do any wrong in their own minds, the cannot repent of their sins.

Jesus said in Revelation chapter 22:14 people are blessed when the “do His commandments”. Liberals, by the very nature of their activities, turn their backs on the Commandments.

In verse 15 of that same chapter, Jesus tells us that idolaters will not be allowed to enter the Holy City, a metaphor for salvation itself.

There is a group that visited my campus known as “Catholics for Choice.”

I wanted to attend their presentation and combat them, but I had a conflicting obligation.

Some idiot in the comment sections actually argues that abortion is humane because it prevents the baby for experiencing the trauma associated with child birth.

I give up.

I utterly despise these people. They make me think very Un-Christian thoughts.

I refuse to visit the site, but am very curious what Scriptures they think depicts a God sanctioned abortion.

Liberals always want to make God and Jesus into their image.
Imagine their surprise when they stand before the Lord in judgement and realize He doesn’t look just like them.

I’ve been fighting the war with the so-called Christian Left for many years.

You can do a Google search on Sojourners and Tony Compollo and find out that in reality - they are repacking Christianity as a Socialist construct - and had openly stated that the Right had hijacked Christianity from them.

They are simply overt Marxists who are using the Sermon on the Mount to insist that being a good Christian means doing ‘Social Justice’ and practicing and advocating Socialism.

My fear is, their proponents have gloated that Democrats have taken over the GOP leadership, and they need to do the same thing to all Christian churches.

Given the whole homosexual marriage zeitgeist even in the churches - I’d say they have just about succeeded in their takeover bid.

They also used the Bible to justify slavery back in the day.

The Christian Left, Catholics for Choice, and any other Leftist organization has absolutely no affinity to Jesus. They distort his message for their political purposes.

When Jesus was born, Herod committed a horrific act of infanticide, and this monsters believe that Jesus would be in favor of abortion?

Then you have the moron on the comments of the article, actually arguing that an infant is so petrified during the birth process that it is more humane to abort him/her?

Their depravity knows no bounds.

Spirited: Exactly! Dig into the so-called “Christianity” of “Leftism” and you’ll discover that their god is the cosmic energy of evolution, their Christ a great teacher like Buddha, their heaven a socially, environmentally, economically just, gender-neutral worldly paradise (socialism).

By any name their ‘Christianity’ is neo-Gnostic mystical pantheism.

Nietzsche predicted that sometime during the 20th century the death of God would result in a world turned upside-down. And so it is. Today self-righteous finger-pointing is the ‘new’ moral law, truth is lie, the unnatural is natural, death is life and apostasy and heresy are Christian.

There isn’t a Christian left or right. You can only be a Christian by being a Christian. That’s the author’s point.

These are anti-Christians or liars or servants of the adversary which is all the same thing.

BTW, the modern left are more like the flat earthers that they accuse others of being. Their claim is that there are people who are not able to better themselves so the rest of us must restrict ourselves to their standards.

The only use they have for the concept of evolution is to beat others on the head with it ~ they have no beliefs about the process, if it exists, or if it has meaning. Just listen to their squeals at the mention of the terms EPIGENETICS or METHYLATION.

I’m going to “steal” that sometime.

Spirited: Please do! I say that because deep within the psyche of the envious is shame and fear of exposure. Exposure is what’s needed for the same reason that dark things shun light. Exposure brings shame. Shame at the very least, leads to fear of repeat offense for fear of exposure.

Envy is a spiritual pathology that can and will lead to murder, as it did with Cain who envied Able. The cycle begins with transference of guilt from the envious to the object of envy followed by psychological bullying (crucifixion of spirit) and taking of things (destruction of spiritual virtues, theft of good name, temporal goods) then comes physical crucifixion.

Only our Lord the Physician of souls can heal the envy-bitten soul. But until and unless the spiritually sick soul seeks healing we must resort to strategic deterrence methods, i.e., exposure.

Seems to me these people do not love God with all their hearts, minds and souls (Matt 22:38) for if they did, they would hang on His every word and want everything He wants and nothing He abhors.

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. - 2 Timothy 3:1-5

Hi AG!

I think these things happen because "faith cometh by hearing"

I think that the above holds true for pretty much everyone to some degree. What you hear the most is what you will,in your heart, trust the most and what you trust deep in your heart is what will direct the way you think. And I suppose the way we think would determine to a large degree how we see the world. It's why propaganda works.

The "god of this world" has been busy undermining believers trust, deep down inside,of the reality of God's word by bombarding the senses with everything including the kitchen sink to the contrary. He's been doing it a long time and the effectiveness of his railing has expoded in the last century. To the point where we are practically swimming in an anti-christ current.

No wonder Jesus said the work of God is to believe!Because most everything in this world incuding our own deceitfull heart is against God and is against confronting that which is "a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart" It's sad so many have had their spiritual senses dulled to the point where we may well be living on the very cusp of the most stupendous event in the history of the cosmos and many are too busy with religion to see it.

We need to "test all things" big time and hold every thought captive.Hold it,turn it around and give it a good inspection before allowing it to continue on down to reside with the rest of our 'baggage'.If we don't our own heart will be slowly but surely lead to man's wisdom. In spite of what we may think we believe it's what we do that will tell us what's going on in our heart."For as a man thinketh in his heart,so he is"

The so-called christian left and no doubt the rest of us,need to check what we are hearing 'cause wether we do or not it will eventually end up determining to a big degree what we really do have faith in.And that sort of deep down faith can't be faked, for good or for bad.

Sorry for the rant but it's better than turnin' blue.

Thank you so much for sharing your insights, dear mitch5501!

I think that the above holds true for pretty much everyone to some degree. What you hear the most is what you will,in your heart, trust the most and what you trust deep in your heart is what will direct the way you think.

Truly said. Repetition works. However, the words of God will not "sink in" regardless of repetition and even accompanying signs and miracles - unless He has given a person the gift of "ears to hear."

And Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that the LORD did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land; The great temptations which thine eyes have seen, the signs, and those great miracles: Yet the LORD hath not given you an heart to perceive, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day. And I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxen old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxen old upon thy foot. - Deuteronomy 29:2-5

And when we do have the gift of "ears to hear" His words are nourishment to our souls. We hang on His every word - they are life and spirit to us, i.e. alive in us.

But his delight [is] in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. - Psalms 1:2

But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. – Matt 4:4

Give us this day our daily bread. – Matt 6:11

I am that bread of life. – John 6:48

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life. - John 6:63

Truly, to know Him is to love Him. Or put another way, knowing the Scriptures is one thing, but knowing the Author is something else.

To those without "ears to hear" Scriptures are just like any other manuscript, dead letters. But He indwells us.

Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. - Matt 22:29

But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. - Romans 8:9

We who do have "ears to hear" continue to thrive on His words and gain understanding. And God Himself becomes more important to us than anything or anyone else. Only then can we keep the one and only Great Commandment:

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

This is the first and great commandment.

And the second [is] like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets. – Matthew 22:35-40

A person who loves God this way - surpassingly above all else - will want everything that He wants and nothing that He abhors.

Conversely, if they still want what He abhors, then they are idolators - loving themselves or someone or something else more than Him.

When that happens, He hands them over to a reprobate mind:

And even as they did not like to retain God in [their] knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. - Romans 1:28-32

Thus I aver that these people (the Christian Left in the article) evidently do not love God with all their hearts, minds and souls.

God's Name is I AM.

Through out the Bible, it mentions being on the right side, right hand and on the left side or left hand. Each of those are saying in scripture that that on the right is good and those on the left are wrong. Such as the Sheep’s and Goats Judgment. God separates the goats on the left and His sheep on the right. Thus tells me that the left is wrong and the right is RIGHT!
