True.
My feeder guy has Gaboons, Rattlers and Cobras.
I’ve seen them but have the good sense to not touch them.
He’s licensed.
I’m just a fascinated spectator.

One of the absolutely best written episodes of the X-files is titled, "Signs and Wonders," and involves a small town in Tennessee that is host to both an old fashioned fire and brimstone snake handling preacher, and a progressive, peace and love, Rick Warren type.
The two are in conflict over the souls of the town, and everything points to fire and brimstone preacher as the bad guy...until the very end when you find out he was right all along, and the kinder, gentler preacher is the corrupt one.

“A snake-handling Kentucky preacher”
I assume he was traveling from or to Kentucky with them.
Can’t do that, especially since the psychotic Lacey Act went into effect.

Those in the control culture seldom need reason or justification to behave irrationally.
To: Joe 6-pack
Yup, it was.
My other favorite is the ep titled “Drive”.
That was a great show until it jumped the shark.

Until the surrounding states voted to reject the idiotic ‘snake ban’, I was in peril of committing a felony just for taking one of my Boas across a state line.
When you consider that the only two good herp vets near me are in PA and VA, that could have been disastrous.
Still, no hots are allowed at MD or VA reptile expos.
PA allows them.

They are known in our parts as ‘Pentecostals’.

I don't think it ever really jumped the shark (in spite of the episode of that name). I didn't really like Robert Patrick's character at first, but he grows on you, and by the episode where he sprinkles his child's ashes into the sea, you get a lot of sympathy for him.
Certainly as the show was winding down, the cast and crew had a lot of lighter moments, and the season nine episode with Burt Reynolds is truly a classic.
The last episode (two parter) was pretty hokey, but the final scene was, IMHO, one of the best closing scenes of any show. Ever.

Yep. Did you know Charles Nelson Reilly reprised the role for an episode of Millenium?

quite the brave ones! They aren't brave. They are frigging insane. I had ferrets, which are the same family. They are just terminally insane. They missed out on the fear gene that the rest of us mammals got.
Did I mention they are crazy?

They might be insane or maybe not. It’s none of our business. In Principle.

I was talking about the mongooses. Not the snake handlers.
And they are crazy too, but I'm not for making laws against humans being crazy.

As weird as the snake-handling thing is, TN's own Constitution would seem to prevent this:
Art I, Section 3.
That all men have a natural and indefeasible right to worship Almighty God according to the dictates of their own conscience; that no man can of right be compelled to attend, erect, or support any place of worship, or to maintain any minister against his consent; that no human authority can, in any case whatever, control or interfere with the rights of conscience; and that no preference shall ever be given, by law, to any religious establishment or mode of worship.

LOL..hardly.
It’s just that whenever somebody here says the word ‘snake’ or ‘salamander’, I get pinged.
[I must remind people of slimy, slithery things]
