Skip to comments.Evangelical Christianity, Catholicism Labeled 'Extremist' in Army Presentation (Along with KKK)

A U.S. Army Reserve Equal Opportunity training brief describes "Evangelical Christianity" and "Catholicism" as examples of "religious extremism," according to the Archdiocese for the Military Services and the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty, who shared a copy of the documents with The Christian Post.
"The number of hate groups, extremists and anti‐govt organizations in the U.S. has continued to grow over the past three years, according to reports by the Southern Poverty Law Center. They increased to 1,018 in 2011, up from 1,002 in 2010 and 602 in 2000," reads the first page of the slide presentation labeled "Extremism & Extremist Organizations."
Listed alongside "extremist" groups and organizations like the Klu Klux Klan and al-Qaida, the U.S. Army slideshow has "Evangelical Christianity" as the first bullet, followed by the Muslim Brotherhood, Ultra-Orthodox Judaism and farther down on the slide, Catholicism.
According to the training documents, "Extremism is a complex phenomenon" that is present in every religion due to "some followers that believe that their beliefs, customs and traditions are the only 'right way' and that all others are practicing their faith the 'wrong way,' seeing and believing that their faith/religion superior to all others."
"Men and women of faith who have served the Army faithfully for centuries shouldn't be likened to those who have regularly threatened the peace and security of the United States," retired Col. Ron Crews, executive director of the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty, said in a statement that included a link to controversial Power Point presentation. Crews reportedly was alerted to the training material by a concerned soldier.
There are no dates on the slides to indicate when the training might have been presented to soldiers, but the Army Chief of Chaplains office has said that the training was an isolated incident and the slides were not sanctioned by the U.S. Army Department. A separate Army spokesman told the Navy Times that the materials were presented last year to soldiers and once discovered, were discarded.
"The archdiocese is astounded that Catholics were listed alongside groups that are, by their very mission and nature, violent and extremist," the Archdiocese for the Military Services said in a statement, as reported by World Magazine. Roman Catholics make up 20 percent of active-duty members of the military, while other faith groups and denominations, such as Muslims, Buddhists and Southern Baptists, are less than 2 percent of the U.S. military.
"It is dishonorable for any U.S. military entity to allow this type of wrongheaded characterization. It also appears that some military entities are using definitions of 'hate' and 'extreme' from the lists of anti-Christian political organizations. That violates the apolitical stance appropriate for the military," added Col. Crews.
One "anti-Christian political organization" in question is the Southern Poverty Law Center, cited as a source in the training documents. The SPLC has drawn criticism from conservatives over its designation of faith-based organizations as "hate groups," such as the case with nonprofit, pro-family organization the Family Research Council. On its current list of 1,007 "known hate groups operating across the country," the SPLC cites the Washington, D.C.-based group as "anti-gay" due to its biblical views on marriage and sexuality.
Documentation File on the harmful impact of the Counterculture of Obamanation on America.
Barry Soetoro, aka B. Hussein Obama, 5 days before the end of GWBs Presidential term, said: We are five days away from FUNDAMENTALLY TRANSFORMING THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA!
Going on 5 years now, the best friends that Obama could have had to help him achieve his above stated dastardly goal were the RINO leadership in the US House and Senate, AND THEY ARE STILL IN POWER!
IMHO, the Counterculture of Obamanation will continue to destroy America for as long as the US Congressional RINOs allow it to, and not one minute more!
This is NOT going to end well, those extremists in Christ well indeed the others not so much
Just wow. I haven’t heard of an instance of Evangelical Christians or Latterday Saints shooting up crowds, cutting of heads, launching unguided rockets into civilian populations, or strapping bombs onto themselves and blowing up innocent bystanders.
Is this a Chuck Hagel missive?
why have any faith if you don’t believe it’s the right one? that’s moronic otherwise.
...and they wonder why enlistment is down.
RE: I havent heard of an instance of Evangelical Christians or Latterday Saints shooting up crowds, cutting of heads, launching unguided rockets into civilian populations,
But of course you have heard of Evangelical Christians Or Mormons or Catholics being against the homosexual lifestyle and gay marriage. *THAT* is apparently extremism nowadays.
“A U.S. Army Reserve Equal Opportunity training brief describes “Evangelical Christianity” and “Catholicism” as examples of “religious extremism,” according to the Archdiocese for the Military Services and the Chaplain Alliance for Religious Liberty, who shared a copy of the documents with The Christian Post.”
I suspect that Satan would agree w/ the training brief as well.
God help us...what is happening to our country....
Religious Extremists = You actually believe.
Certainly all of us who adhere to any of the traditional forms of any of the Abrahamic religions would not adhere to our faith if we did not believe it to be the truth. (We Orthodox Christians, for instance, sing "we have found the True Faith, worshipping the undivided Trinity" at the end of every Liturgy.) However, adherents of syncretistic religions like Hinduism or Unitarian Universalism, have the odd (to my mind indefensible) view that "all religions are ways to God" or "all religions are true", and seemingly adhere to their chosen faith as a matter of taste or aesthetics.
Personally, I'm offended they didn't mention the Orthodox Church as an extremist group. I think we're much more extreme than any of the Western variants of Christianity.
You’ll get your turn in the can but for the moment THEY, and we do know who THEY are, don’t know about the Orthodox.
Well, how about a few others whose way is the only right way?
Democrat Senators (you can add rinos)
Mayors doomberg & Rahm
> God help us...what is happening to our country...
It is disintegrating at many levels.
Imagine what our future ARMY veterans will be like.
Islamophobia is a form of religious extremism. Anti-Christianity is not. Check.
White supremacist groups are Christian. Not atheist, not neo-Norse pagans. Check.
When I go to Mass tomorrow I’ll be funding extremism. Check. Perhaps cash. Less traceable.
This comes directly from Napolitano’s Dept. of Homeland Security office. It was promulgated a year or so ago.
Actually, I find actually say this to folks.
When you have a extremist muslim, you get a Bin Ladin.
When you have a extremist Catholic, you get a Mother Teresa.
When you have a extremist Evangelical, you get a Billy or Franklin Graham.
Got to watch out for those Mother Teresas, keep them off the buses.
There are some high ranking military officers in need of a courts-martial.
Having been around military people most of my life, I learned that many military programs implemented have been planned for years. This could have been planned before Obama became President
We are SO OVER.
Hey idiots...how about at least spelling MORMON correctly!
“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”
“Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who put darkness for light and light for darkness, who put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter.”
Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.
Yet we keep seeing things like this. They are being changed and trained to attack groups in the US that the FedGov and the elite have no use for. Don't be surprised when they come.
I was hoping for the LCMS to be mentioned by name. But to the average atheist, we are the same as Catholics. I suspect the Orthodox are also.
Way, way, more than a year or so ago.
When the Catholic Church and Jerry Falwell stood up to Clinton on queers in the military, the media changed gears.
The media began to put the vast majority of it's resources into both obviously and subtly working to eliminate Christian morality from society and to attack and slander anyone who stood up for Christian morality. Anyone, even a democrat, who tried to live a Christian life or even just hold the line on a few things was attacked and targeted. They were targeted with big money and free media coverage when they ran for office and falsely accused of immorality in every venue the media and democrat fascists had at their disposal if they weren't in public office.
Christians at all levels were removed from jobs for not agreeing to new social criteria, their simple errors, their refusal to "dialogue" with Satan, and even outright lies and baseless accusations. Christians in office or in Churches that were targeted, unlike ham sandwiches, were very, very, seldom indicted or even confronted with evidence but that didn't matter. Neutralizing them mattered, and the people who stood up were knocked down and either rendered far less effective or completely ineffective.
To this day some people who were never indicted of a thing are scorned by fellow Christians for what the media accused them of. Others are held to the very same high standards Christians refuse to stand up for in any meaningful way in their own lives. The very same people, though, will tell you they know the media is just the propaganda arm of the democrat fascist party. Apparently, though, a lot of people who claim to be Christian are willing to accept as fact anything the media says about a Christian or a Christian group.
Their change of strategy worked very, very, well. By the time they had to defend BJ Clinton over his lies and adultery, most people who claim to be Christian were willing to ignore immoral behavior in return for the economy doing well. People who ten years earlier would have worked their fingers to the bone to elect a dead hamster rather than see someone who supported queers in the military stay in office were more than happy to go along to get along.
People who had always before based their outlook on Christian morality were willing to accept "fairness" as the new standard. Whatever didn't threaten their comfortable life wasn't a big deal for them anymore no matter how immoral it was. The vast majority of the people who were dedicated to Christianity as the compass for their lives in the late eighties tossed that compass aside to embrace secular humanist GPS. "Christian conservatives" as a force in politics had rusted away to nothing in less than two decades of increasing prosperity.
Nothing shows how effective the corrosive effects of this society on Christians better than the lack of massive demonstrations against queers marrying one another. Reeds bend in the wind, that's a fact and it never changes.
Christians have decided that as long as they can gripe about reeds in the wind there's no reason to bother with the heavy lifting required to reposition the fan that generates the wind. The Dept of Homeland Security isn't the cause of any of this, it's one of the consequences of Christians being brainwashed into accepting a "fair" humanist society rather than a moral Christian society.
Remember the time those Baptists stormed that embassy and killed that ambassador?
Remember the time those Mormons blew themselves up in the crowded shopping center?
Remember the time those Catholics gang-raped that girl and then tried to stone her for getting pregnant out of wedlock?
Remember the time those Pentecostals went on a shooting spree at that army outpost?
Neither do I.
"Moderate," non-fundamentalist religion is an artificial modern creation with no roots in the past and nothing to offer for the future.
Here’s a question -— is environmentalism — the kind that firmly believes that HUMANS ACTIVITY is causing catastrophic climate change not Extremism?
Its roots are in the recent past and what it offers for the future is a world with no fossil fuels and nuclear energy.
And it uses the power of governments to impose its beliefs on everyone.
RE: Remember the time those Catholics gang-raped that girl and then tried to stone her for getting pregnant out of wedlock?
Anti-Catholics will always talk about what happened hundreds of years ago... The Crusades, The Inquisition. Just saying I’ve seen this movie before... as far back as when I was still in college.
Forgive the off-topic question, but i can’t find something in searches due to not knowing the spelling...
Im in a debate / conversation with a lib and cant remember that modern socialist theorist duo that obama follows. (Not alinsky). Its a hyphenated word with both the theorists names, i think. It has something in the name like... clivins.. pivins... pickins... ??? Any clue would be much appreciated so i can streamline a search!
cloward and piven
There are movements in the USA that uses the name “CHRISTIAN” even as they pervert the teachings of Christ and the Scriptures.
The problem with these idiots (a kind word I am using ) in the Army is they don’t differentiate these people with Evangelical Christianity and Catholicism.
Now, even Pope Francis and Billy Graham are considered Extremist.
Christian Identity (note the use of the word — Christian)
Christian Identity is a label applied to a wide variety of loosely affiliated believers and churches with a white supremacist theology. Most promote a racist interpretation of Christianity.
Wesley Swift (19131970) is considered by the FBI to have been the single most significant figure in the early years of the Christian Identity movement. Swift was born in New Jersey, and eventually moved to Los Angeles in order to attend Bible college. It is claimed that he may have been a Ku Klux Klan organizer and a Klan rifle-team instructor.
Hutaree is a militia movement group adhering to the ideology of the Christian Patriot movement (there’s the word “Christian” again ), based near Adrian, Michigan, in the United States. The group was formed in early 2006.
The name Hutaree appears to be a neologism; the groups web site says that it means Christian warriors.
The group became widely known in 2010 after the FBI prosecuted them in federal court for an alleged plan for violent revolt. The prosecution said this was to have involved killing a police officer and attacking the funeral with bombs. The presiding judge dismissed these charges. Three members pled guilty to possessing a machine gun and were sentenced to time served.
That’s it! Thanks!
The difference is that when Christians screw up on such a monumental scale, they repent and change for the better.
Unlike a certain ‘Religion of Peace’ that shall remain nameless and forever trapped in the dark ages (which seems fine by them)
But yes, for Christianity’s detractors the Crusades and the Inquisition never ended, and those who label themselves Christian today must somehow be complicit in the atrocities of centuries ago.
Is it logical? No.
But who ever accused the left of being logical.
RE: The difference is that when Christians screw up on such a monumental scale, they repent and change for the better.
Not only that, THEY OSTRACIZE AND CONDEMN (DOCTRINAL TERM -— EX-COMMUNICATE) ANY VIOLENT OR LUNATIC STRAIN OF CHRISTIANITY (PUBLICLY).
Most Christian Churches either PUBLICLY CONDEMN or DISSOCIATE from the Westboro Baptist Church for instance.
But Heres a question that just came to my mind... Knowing quite a number of military men, I am certain that a significant number of those in the army are Evangelical and Catholics.
Why the SILENCE on this? They should unite and protest this outrage.
The only people SPLC considers “mainstream” are themselves. They have all the markings of cult.
you have to read all the way through, but down at the bottom, it mentions the Southern Poverty Law Center as the source, and calls them “anti-Christian.” Figures...
This article makes it clear that the militant secularists see Catholics and Evangelicals in the same boat of “eeveel homophobes” and don’t differentiate between any Christian. They hate us all and attack us all — we hang in together or we hang separately
>>This article makes it clear that the militant secularists see Catholics and Evangelicals in the same boat of eeveel homophobes and dont differentiate between any Christian. They hate us all and attack us all we hang in together or we hang separately
I agree. The Evangelicals, Catholics, and don’t forget the biblically conservative members of the mainline Protestant churches too. We’re all allies against the secular, humanist, and homosexual forces that want to crush us or assimilate us.
