In Theory: Has the economy damaged the work ethic?
The Burbank Leader ^ | April 26, 2013

Posted on 04/27/2013 7:48:09 PM PDT by Alex Murphy

Sociologist Max Weber first advanced the idea of a Protestant work ethic in 1914. A recent study suggests that not only does this ethic exist, it can make the effects of unemployment worse for Protestants than for non-Protestants.

The Dutch survey, which used data from 150,000 people in 82 countries traditionally identified as Protestant — including the U.S., U.K., South Africa, Germany and others — found that while unemployment has a negative effect on everyone, it affects Protestants more, up to 40% more in some cases. Dutch economist Dr. André van Hoorn, who led the study, said, "We found that the work ethic does exist, and that individual Protestants and historically Protestant societies appear to value work much more than others." Cary Cooper, professor of Organisational Psychology and Health at Lancaster University in England, said, "People who had followed the work ethic for years found themselves without a job [after the 2008 crash]; all the sacrifices – working long hours, not seeing the kids – had not worked out…. We may find that's damaged the work ethic and people are putting less focus on work and more on a balance between work and the rest of their life."

The work ethic will return after the economic collapse and the global war.

Why don’t you ask a question that makes sense?

Well, in theory, theory and practice are the same. But, in practice, they’re not.

Does that help?

For me traditional work and pay by the hour sucks.

That’s why I’ve been in sales and owned businesses .

Didn’t care for my job....I left.

Didn’t care for my business...sold it or closed em.

Moved on to the next shiny thing that gets my attention.

What question did I ask?

I’ll be honest with you, after all the deadbeats I see buying top notch food with their EBT’s and after I noticed that the bombers in Boston had better cars, clothes and weapons that I had while on welfare, I ask myself, why try?

I think it’s backwards, people got complacent after so much success.

Too many people thought prosperity was an entitlement, and lead to the collapse.

However, I think many people who are wavering about it will see the current situation to justify their laziness.

Because doing what is right is worth more than money and things. That is why we keep doing it the right way.

The Economy has not ruined the work ethic...the DEMOCRATS/RINOS and their faulty policies have....what you reward is what you get more of....

In this economy I think there is a fine line between losing your work ethic and going Galt.

Hmmmmmm. I’m thinking that maybe, just maybe, that comment wasn’t intended to be a compliment. But I could be wrong, at least in theory. In practice it is rare.

I never found europeans to be particularly hard-working, so that blows that theory.

“The thief has come to kill, rob and destroy.” So anyone who points a finger at anyone for destroying anything is rooting in satan and as it gives evil cover.

Like Satan ‘tried’ to rob people of God’s Word through ‘man made teachings’ God sent one to unleash His Word and left them with the counterfeit/ man made teachings because the gates of hell will not prevail against His Church.

Proverbs 10:22 “The blessing of the LORD brings wealth, without painful toil for it.”

And those who believe HIS Word alone is blessed, blessed, blessed. And the believers of man made teachings need to toil hard for it for they listened to ‘another voice’.

That is all we have in this country it seems.

The illegals are ALL THIEVES! They steal from us everyday. They drive on our roads, put their children in our schools and use our hospitals ALL FOR FREE. They aren’t even supposed to be here. If they do it, we all should. We have $17 trillion in debt and have around $100 trillion in unfunded liabilities, We are all just waiting for the big collapse. Why work too hard?
