Many American Christians were shocked on Friday morning as they turned on their radios. The popular radio station known as "K-Love" had suddenly switched from their familiar format of contemporary Christian music (CCM) and praise and worship music to a cappella unaccompanied psalms, with recordings taken from various congregations of the Free Church of Scotland.
"I was expecting Chris Tomlin when I loaded up the kids for school this morning." Said Kathy Valen, mother of four. "Instead I got a jarring rendition of Psalm 109:10, 'Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places.' My kids were just a little freaked out, and I'll admit, I was too."
All around the country on the various repeater stations people were baffled, checking their radios, switching stations and visiting the K-Love website to make sure everything was okay. The station was flooded with calls all day long, especially when the daily "Encouraging Word" was replaced with sermons of the late Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones.
TBNN tried to reach someone at the station for comment. One DJ who asked to remain anonymous stated only that, "The change is likely to be permanent" and that "We will be shutting down every Sunday in observance of the Sabbath."

I would certainly support this change as to most of the radio stations around here, especially those playing (c)Rap and Ghetto music.

It’s almost as funny as that time back when I was a DJ, and the radio station I worked for went Spanish format one weekend. My friends and I laughed that day. As we were picking up our final checks....

I was getting excited. American Evangelicals could stand a heavy dose of Martyn Lloyd-Jones.
Hundreds of his sermons have recently been made available online. I’m going through his Romans series now (350+ sermons) and I highly recommend it.
The Free Church of Scotland, a.k.a. the “Wee Frees”. A small denomination, but very solid and conservative. Not many have heard of this denomination.
I remember my parents watching a old bw movie on TV. It was ‘How green was my valley.” All I recall is the church hymns sung in the movie. It was Welsh not Scottish but this part of the world seems to love singing. I have always enjoyed singing scripture.
This past Sunday, our "music minister" started us out with two hymns that contain human words and scripture and one of the most concise representations of the Gospel and a small dose of eschatology ("I Know Whom I Have Believed", "My Faith Has Found a Resting Place").
Then he spoiled it with some pop-sounding pap whose chorus, taken alone, could have been any pop "love" ballad perhaps "best" sung by a boy band to the squeals of tween girls.
The effect on me was like that on the fictional minivan mom of this story, but from the opposite direction.

The Welsh choir was imported from Wales for the movie, and then WW2 started and they got stuck in the U.S. until we retook control of the Atlantic seaways.

There was a book I read 3 or 4 years ago (I'll remember the title when I can look at my shelves) that talked about "Becky". Becky is the ideal consumer that Christian radio is aiming at. She's a middle class suburban mom with a minivan and a few kids. She may or may not even be a Christian. she likes her music bland and safe.
One of the Christian stations in the big city down the road was taken over by K-love. Let's just say, it's not to my taste.
OH! I never knew that! I thought the Free Church of Scotland was being racist when they sang, “Wee Free Kings!”
I know this is humor but I LOATHE the dj’s on KLOVE
they are just too squishy sweet for me.
Back when O’bama care passed the DJ’s I was listening to at the time were all giddy and exited.
and they do happy stories about liberals doing stoopid stuff all the time.3
and the quarterly beg for money is just another nail in thier coffin.
They can sell AD’s to who ever they want to sell Ad’s to so don’t give me this crap about needing to do beg o thons to keep the lights on. SELL an AD to a Christian Company or to a Church.
I couldn’t take it any more and wont listen.
