That is yet another statement that leaves out Mary and the “saints.”

The topic is the worship and adoration of Mary, not perpetual virginity. It’s you who went off on the tangent. Here’s Luther on this kind of an obsession:

You’re free to post the corrections straight from Rome that rebukes those who believe that Mary does personally hear the prayers directed to her, or that the smelling of roses is evidence of her actual presence with the devotee.

So you rebuke me for asserting what the RCC teaches on the matter, and then you rebuke me for not believing, with “simple people,” that a human spirit is capable of being present with all the Catholic believers in the world. I myself do not believe that human beings can have the divine attributes of omnipresence or omniscience. Nor do I believe that God ordained human spirits to be the “stronghold” or “hope” of believers. I’ll lean on God, and you can go to Mary if you like, and we’ll see who is the one with the real power.

It’s an “open” Religion Forum thread, so the poster is free to argue for/against beliefs, including his understanding of those beliefs/teachings.
Are you saying that we as Catholics cannot even confront the person who is misrepresenting the Catholic Church and its beliefs by posting falsehoods about it?
It gets tiresome to bear this — it’s almost as though Catholics are prodded or baited to answer by some non- Catholic posters putting falsehoods on the threads and saying they are true.

Instead of sighing about the persecution you are experiencing by my hands, you’re free to contradict my position on RCC teaching. Just a second ago you got done telling me that people really do experience the personal presence of Mary in the form of the scent of roses, and before that you were rebuking me for asserting that the RCC teaches that Mary is personally present and hearing the prayers of the believer, and now again you are accusing me of posting falsehoods.
But do not expect the issue to be settled. There will always be newcomers to the debates and some issues cannot be resolved.
For instance, some posters sincerely believe that Catholics worship Mary whereas many if not all Catholic Freepers consider that belief to be a damnable lie. The issue cannot be "settled" - each time the claim is made, both sides must present their arguments for the Lurkers.

The demeanor of the poster says more about his own confession than the post says about yours. When he is being rude or mean it drives people away from his confession and towards yours. That is of course if you can resist the urge to meet fire with fire, in which case neither confession is appealing to the lurkers. The poster who “turns the other cheek” wins every single time.
If the other guy is throwing spitwads at you on an “open” thread it probably means he has run out of ammunition. Take it as a backhanded compliment. You won, walk away.
Spiritual maturity is not a prerequisite for posting on the Religion Forum. If the other guy is being childish, be patient with him.
Abusive spammers contribute nothing other than their spam and they don’t last long on Free Republic.
Getting personal or crying persecution with me isn’t going to help your cause.
We need to understand and accept that on these threads beliefs of an organization are subject to distortion and criticism, but any thought one pulls from their equus africanus is protected speech.
To adopt the language of the forum it is my belief that this is why so many posters claim to not be part of any organization or denomination. Others claim to be former Catholics. It is my belief that this may be dishonest and a manipulative ploy, but an unfortunate fact of life.

It does seem futile to speak of our capacities of spiritual communion with saints and angels, when it is evidently impossible, sometimes, to communicate with one puny human.
I will continue to worship the Lord Our God and to enjoy the Communion of Saints. I will pray that it dawns on you sometime what I'm talking about. And I'll remember you at Mass this morning.

Good question, Cy. What it means is that Christ is the only, unique, singular and sufficient savior and mediator, and that we who are in Christ are all in living, vital, beneficial contact with each other, loving and praying for each other without ceasing --- precisely because we are living in Christ.
This is the very basis of the Communion of Saints.
Jesus, my Lord, my God, my all.
