In the face of the recent decision by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) to admit openly practising homosexuals into the organisation, an exodus of Catholics from the BSA is under way. Already thousands have responded to the call of Dr. Taylor Marshall to create the Catholic "Scouts of Saint George."

One wonders what strategy the left will use to subvert
The Scouts of Saint George if it ever sees the light of day.

IMHO

The ACLU will use the tactics as they did with the BSA. “God” should not be in the oath or “inflicted upon another boy”.

This immediately destroys the BSA. Wearing the uniform was already an embarrassement to some boys because of stigma of being “uncool”. (the underwear is supposed to be on the outside). Now, wearing the uniform gets you called every gay name in the world. If I had a son we’d be through as of last week..

As a private organization they can admit who they want and exclude who they want. The Boy Scouts set that precedent before they finally caved.

I still don’t understand why the scouts caved. Within five years, they are going to be an also ran organization and that’s very sad...

According to a report I read by a man who’s been a Scout Master for years, they did it because of corporate pressure. According to this guy, Scout Masters and Administrators get a retirement pension as reward for their service if they serve a certain number of years. The Corps were threatening to pull the funding.

So, as ever, its all about the money, if this report is indeed true. At the end of this exercize, I expect the Scouts will be Federalized into some sort of Brown Shirt Youth movement.

I agree.

if they held their ground, it looks like Obama’s thuggish attacks using the irs and injustice department is weakening. It is sad that they caved. It looks like we will be voting to keep or resolve our local troop in the next few days.

If local dens of Scouts are independent of the national organization, then are they bound by this execrable decision or can they exercise their individual prerogative and deny admission to homos?

If they can’t, what’s to stop them from forswearing affiliation with the national aand establishing an Independent Boy Scouts organization that embraces the classic values of Scouting?

(Sigh).......its a great idea, but I strongly suspect that this guy and others like him don’t get a big piece of the picture. The only way a religious “group”; church; congregation, etc., can escape the mandates of the gov’t is to do as do the Amish, the Menonites, etc. and limit participation in organizations to members of that religious “sect” or belief system, etc. The USCCB, at their core “know” this, but they’re resisting near to the point of compromising their principles because they cling to the “money” handed them for running services, hospitals, clinics, schools, that are non-sectarian, ie, open to all faiths. If they go the Amish route, the footprint, (physical plants) of the church would shrink to the size of an ant. Very, very sad. At some point someone needs to point out that they can’t serve both God and Mamon.

Your second sentence does not square with my experience and knowledge. Scoutmasters are strictly unpaid volunteers, usually parents of a Scout in the troop or members of the chartering organization, like a church. The professional, paid scouters work through the local council with assignments to districts, camps, or council staff/admin. These people likely do have a retirement program that would be threatened if corporate dollars were withdrawn as a form of pressure on policy.

Den = Cub Scout, i.e. elementary ages 6-11.

Troop = Boy Scout, ages 11-18.

Just FYI...

Also, there is no such thing as being “independent” because use of the terms “Scout” or “Scouting” is restricted by Public Law to the BSA and GSA with their respective Congressional Charters. If you want the benefits of the program for advancement, training, organization, and facilities access, then there remains no choice on the policy.

Look for independent organizations to build on the ruins of the BSA.

Thanks for the information; as I’d mentioned, I wasn’t sure what was correct.

Somebody needs to tell every 19D they aren’t REALLY Scouts. Or tell that to a Marine Corps Scout Sniper. Native American tribes also currently use the term “scout” for both training courses and organizations that are unrelated to the BSA.

There were Scouts before the law and the terms “scout” and “scouting” were both used. I’d love to see BSA argue in court that no one else can use the terms.

Give me a break - no disrespect was meant to the military scouts, whatever the uniform. The Congressional Charter had to do with youth organizations’ use of the word within the organizational name.
