And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. And the evening and the morning were the third day.(Genesis 1:9-13)

All of Creation took place in six days. Everything came to pass by the Word of the Lord, He spoke and it was! On the third day, God separated the earth from the waters,by gathering the waters, and raising up the great continents in whatever form they once were before the flood.

Henry Morris gives us an idea of the complex activities that this powerful fiat of the Creator activated,

“Tremendous chemical reactions got under way, as dissolved elements precipitated and combined with others to form the vast complex of minerals and rocks making the solid earth – its crust, its mantle and it’s core….great earth movements also got underway,in response to differential heating and other forces. Finally the surface of solid earth appeared above the waters and an intricate network of channels and reservoirs opened up on the crust to receive the waters retreating off of the rising continents.”(The Genesis Record,Henry Morris,Baker)

This activity is called ‘Laying the foundations of the earth’, in other parts of scripture. Job learned, while under some heavy questioning by the Most High, that the “Sons of God”, ie angels, were joyful witnesses of this awesome spectacle,

Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding. Who hath laid the measures thereof, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it? Whereupon are the foundations thereof fastened? or who laid the corner stone thereof; When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?(Job 38:4-8)

I love it! The thought of the newly created Angels seeing such majesty and power, and singing and shouting for pure joy! God, how awesome you are! There is no one at all like you! Truly we sing with trembling lips the everlasting anthem, Thou art worthy O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power, for thou hast created all things and for thy pleasure they are created, Thou Art worthy OH Lord!!!

The emergence of the great land mass from out of the waters on the third day of creation, points also to the resurrection of Jesus on the Third day of the new Creation. Jesus death is depicted as a drowning in some of the Psalms,

Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul. I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.(Psalm 69:1-3)

The resurrection is depicted as being “rescued out of many waters”, by King David in Psalm 18,

He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the Lord was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me.(Psalm 18:16-20)

Over the newly set foundations, God had carpeted the earth with various soils, brimming with everything needed for the development and nourishment of life; plant, animal and most importantly, human life. Then the Most High, the Creator, spoke again. He called out of the soil, all vegetation, grass, herb yielding seed, and reproducing fruit trees. The emphasis is that all vegetation bore seed which could reproduce after its own kind. These plants were not seeds, but were created in full maturity, bearing seed within themselves.

God created a complete and mature creation. Adam was a full-grown man when he was created, these trees were created with fruit already on them, later animals would come along, created as mature beasts. There was no slow ‘development’, rather, He spoke and all came into being. The third day was the beginning of life on earth, as the “third day would one day become the basis for new life on earth.

All is being prepared, with meticulous care for our habitation. The Creator patiently puts all in place, as for a guest; a beautiful garden, nourishing food, perfect temperature, clean water, beauty for the eyes of the ones favored to dwell there. But God does all of the work himself, there will be nothing that the favored guests could ever add to, or take away from the loving provision of God.

Surely you don't expect prehistoric man to have been riding around in Chevy Blazers?

to glorify God- see Job 40:16- “Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you and which feeds on grass like an ox. 16 What strength it has in its loins, what power in the muscles of its belly! 17 Its tail sways like a cedar; the sinews of its thighs are close-knit. 18 Its bones are tubes of bronze, its limbs like rods of iron. 19 It ranks first among the works of God, yet its Maker can approach it with his sword. 20 The hills bring it their produce, and all the wild animals play nearby. 21 Under the lotus plants it lies, hidden among the reeds in the marsh. 22 The lotuses conceal it in their shadow; the poplars by the stream surround it. 23 A raging river does not alarm it; it is secure, though the Jordan should surge against its mouth. 24 Can anyone capture it by the eyes, or trap it and pierce its nose?

Not so. Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and earth. A declaration without a time signature of when. So when did that symbolic 'tree' of the knowledge of good and evil planted right there in the Garden of God called Eden learn about evil?

Isaiah 45:17 But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end.

18 For thus saith the LORD That created the heavens; God Himself That formed the earth and made it; He hath established it, He created it NOT in vain, He formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

So the mess the earth became as described in Genesis 1:2 was not the original condition of Genesis 1:1.

It is the Lord who provides all earthly treasures for His created children, mankind, and for their well being and good use. The left believes the opposite, that man is a parasite on the earth and wants to destroy those whom God created the earth for, mankind.
Truly, the left is an enigma of duplicity. Praise the Lord Jesus Christ for His good work and love that prepared salvation for sinners, a work that is greater than creation in measure and scope and of much more significance. Praise the Lord of Hosts.

What was the purpose of dinosaurs?

The Book very clearly says dinosaurs (well, birds more exactly) were formed well before the remaining land mammals and domesticated animals, but after life was formed in the seas.

But plants first.

And snakes last.

In his “The Science of God”, Gerald Schroeder makes an interesting case for “relativity” rendering equivalent ~15 billion years and six days.

It seems to have taken two or three of the earlier days to for stars to fuse the heavier elements. But I’m serious. I don’t find any physical problem with this type of scenario.

I wouldn’t separate fellowship over it, however, the idea of death occurring before Adam’s sin is troubling. Thanks for the insight.
