June 12, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) - In an interview with the US Bishops’ news service, Catholic News Service, Cardinal Raymond Burke, the head or “prefect” of the Vatican’s highest court, spoke about the relationship between contraception and the culture of abortion.
"Contraception is the beginning of the anti-life movement,” Cardinal Burke told CNS’ Francis Rocca. “It certainly will favor an abortion culture. It takes the nature of the sexual union and violates it in a very significant way by removing the pro-creative aspect which is inherent to the union of man and a woman, the sexual union, the conjugal union.”
In the video interview, filmed by CNS’ Robert Duncan, Burke added, “By removing that it is fundamentally an anti-life act.”
The cardinal explained:
The contention is that this act still retains all of its goodness because it is a unitive act. It’s not because the act itself has been so disrupted and violated.
They’re sexually united but they’re not giving themselves completely and totally to one another which is the whole meaning of sexual union. Because either one or both are eliminating the natural procreativity of the act.
He added: “The truth of the matter is that many forms of contraception are in fact abortifacient they destroy human life at its very beginning so we may not be talking about a different reality.”
In 1968, at a time when most Christian denominations had already abandoned their historic opposition to contraception, Pope Paul VI shocked those who had expected the Catholic Church to follow suit by issuing the encyclical Humanae Vitae.
In that encyclical the pope reiterated the Church's teachings against artificial contraception, and predicted that the acceptance of contraception would lead to an increase in infidelity, a general lowering of moral standards, a decrease in respect for women, and the imposition of coercive population control policies by governments.

That’s always been the position of the Catholic Church. But, I don’t agree with it.
That has always been the position of *every* church. Until about 1930 or so.

As far as I know the position of the Church has not changed. Contraception stops the xonception of a baby just as abortion stops the birth of a baby.

You are right, the conception is nixed right away.
Poor babies will meet the parents when their parents die and ask “Why didn’t you let me live?”
I agree that the birth control pill has caused untold harm to our families and nation and that most women are never told that the pill doesn't just prevent ovulation but can also stop an embryo from implanting on the uterine wall - thus causing a "mini-abortion". The IUD is also an abortifacient as its primary purpose is to prevent implantation. What I don't agree with, however, is that ALL methods are equally evil. Barrier methods can be effective in preventing fertilization such as a condom, the "sponge", a diaphragm, etc., while NOT in any way destroying a human life. I just think the Catholic Church is being hypocritical by condemning ALL birth control except the ones they don't. Such a use of non-abortive methods should be left up to the married couple - between them and God - and the church should stay out of their bedroom. They have no Biblical basis for presuming to tell a man and wife what they can and cannot do in their marital bed.

Only someone demented would claim that a women keeping an aspirin between her knees a few days a month is no different than a women taking drugs to make sure any infant she conceives dies, and that not having sex is the same as having sex using an non-abortaficient contraceptive.
It logically follows that stealing when no one knows something was stolen, murder of those who no one ever notices are gone, and lies no one recognizes as lies, are the same as not stealing, not murdering, and not telling lies.
No wonder people didn't care about BJ Clinton being immoral scum who lied under oath. In the eyes of those who throw Scripture in the trash when they don't like it and who worship their own Most High and Holy Self, good old BJ is a perfect man because he perfectly exercises his Christian Liberty.
