People blame the clergy, that is, the priests for the malfeasance and confusion of the last decades, but it’s really the fault of the bishops. In Spanish, there’s a saying: “A buen amo, buenos siervos,” which means that a good master has good servants.
It seems to me that all the Pope is saying here is that we need bishops who are “pastoral”. That reminds me of the many bishops who continue to allow pro-abortion politicians to receive the Eucharist...you know, because that is the so-called “pastoral” thing to do.
