No use trying to pretend its just anti-Catholic propaganda.

Oh, I'm sure some Catholics will call it that anyway.

Alex, I don't think so. This tragic news, however, doesn't make the Eucharist any less Real.

Mostly “ex-Catholics” will say that.

Nobody had any doubt that there was a serious gay mafia at the Vatican and virtually in any other place (chanceries, religious orders, etc.) you cared to mention. It was something the Church has had to fight against constantly, because whenever you have a somewhat closed bureaucratic environment where people can get into “amiguismo” (that is, friends appointing friends), you are opening the door to corruption. Sometimes it’s sexual, sometimes it’s financial, sometimes it’s just the losers promoting the losers (thinking of a lot of US bishops - who aren’t gay and aren’t necessarily evil, but are just dumb and lazy...).

But after Vatican II, with the destruction of the power of the bishops and the attempted destruction of the Faith, it became the norm and decent guys who went to seminary had to pick a seminary based on how few gays it had...but they were everywhere. Many good men were driven away.

BXVI obviously realized he didn’t have the strength to fight this, although obviously he had identified it (the report was originally given to him just before he resigned and then he shared it with Francis in a joint meeting).

Pope Francis is like the crazy uncle who says unexpected things at the dinner party, and I think he is exactly the one to break this up.

I recall posting on a thread that homosexuality is rampant in EO seminaries by the admission of a former seminarian who’s a close friend of my sister and was basically called the *l* word for it.

However, I doubt there will be any retraction for that, and it does verify the report.

Of course, there are always the hyper partisans who just reflexively attack anything with little thought. There are some on this forum who have, in the past, absolutely refused to admit there is any “gay problem” in the Catholic clergy. Maybe now that the Pope himself has acknowledged the issue, they will have to admit it. I think that’s about the only think capable of swaying some folks’ opinion.
