Russia is fated to become center of Christian world
www.pravmir.com ^ | Jul 1st, 2013

Moscow, July 1, Interfax – Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplain, chairman of the Synodal Department for Church and Society Relations, said Russia is moving towards maximum self-reliance and must become the center of global Christianity.

“It is not accidental that many see Russia as a defender of Christian ideals and traditional moral values, as a country that provides a real alternative to the cult of the golden calf and to a suicidal understanding of what freedom is,” Father Vsevolod writes in an article, published in the Rus Derzhavnaya newspaper on Monday.

Russia must start feeling it is the center of the Christian world, he writes. Only if it does will it become an accomplished nation. The rest is “first, petty and, second, self-destructive for it,” the priest said.

“Russia has told the world in clipped terms that it can definitely speak its own language, the language of a self-sufficient and strong nation, whose traditions and experience give it the right to walk its own way, to defend its own ideas of how society should be set up, and also to offer it to the world,” Fr. Vsevolod said.

However hard one tried to influence the state into following the opinions of narrow groups that link themselves to foreign trends and position themselves as the mouthpiece of “would-be Russia”, or “other Russia,” or “real Russia, nothing worked, he said.

“It is not accidental that we said in clear terms despite pressure coming from the West that we do want to protect children from early sexualization and from the propaganda of homosexuality. And we also said that support for foreign adoptions of Russian children is an extremely irrational step. We do not want these children, adopted by perverts, to lose the hope in which many of them were baptised, and to lose a normal life,” Fr. Vsevolod said.

The Cold War is back on folks, and the propaganda machines are working overtime. Check out what Pravda said about this:

In the East there is someone that causes the western liberal's maniacal laughter to stop. Vladimir Putin. He has real world power, which causes the liberal media to fearfully ignore or warp his image. Like a good Christian King he leads a nation to Christ. Deep down in their evil souls they shriek like devils because they know Christ is true God and true power that they cannot defeat. They thought the Bolshevik revolution destroyed Holy Mother Russia. Christ cannot be defeated and his servant Putin has welcomed Christ and His church.

I share the archpriests hope for Russia, but the Orthodox Church is going to have to make sure Russians are not simply identifying with the church on a nationalist level, but are seeing Christ as their personal savior. They shouldn’t be committed to the truth because they’re Russian. They should be committed to the truth because it is the truth.

In the long term, China will also be competing to be Christianity’s center.

If you had told me in 1980 that a man who at the time was a KGB agent would be leading the battle for Christian values in defiance of the US...

Unreal.

The Russians destroyed 4000 of those churches in the city of Keiv alone. Religion has always been a mere tool for the state in Russia.

Russia is preparing to invade America, agit-prop is the game, our destruction the goal. Don’t think Obama is not playing along.

They want us to embrace the invader long enough for them to get a foothold. Then it will be Gulag gangs to harvest our resources for the Motherland.

Putin is a scumbag, never forget it.

The Orthodox Church is very national and also very nationalistic in whatever country it finds itself. Without a central point (such as Rome), each nation’s Orthodox church is on its own and tends to end up very allied with the government of its nation.

National leaders have always taken advantage of this.

That said, I’d rather have a national leader promoting Christianity, whatever his reasons, than trying to destroy it.

If Russia can resist Western Decadence, it may very well become the center of the Christian World and the final repository of Western Civilization.

The Western nations, which cannot figure out how to keep heroin and cocaine pushers out of their grammar schools and prefer propaganda to truth, have birth controlled, aborted, and homosexualized themselves into demographic oblivion.

If Russia can reverse its population decline sufficiently to survive the threats of China and the Muslim World, it may inherit the earth.

After the fall of Constantinople, Moscow became “The third Rome”

At least that is the way the Russians saw it.

It’s ridiculous. Putin is a murderer, and the Patriarch of the ROC is still a known former KGB agent. This is a nationalistic, shallow version of Christianity placed on an outward observance of “values,’ but an inward decay of death and destruction.

There is no ‘Christian King’ coming out of Russia. Just a Czar wannabe who has no problem murdering those who get in his way.

Much better to have Russian street urchins. (My cousin adopted a brother and sister - out on the street at 5 and 6). The older one, the boy, when asked to speak some Russian said in broken English “I never speak Russian again.”

It's my understanding that the Russian government really cracks down on any Church or organization that tries to proselytize people away from Eastern Orthodoxy. The Russian government only recognizes a handful of religions as "legitimate" apart from Orthodoxy - Islam, Judaism, Buddism, and perhaps Catholicism. I'm not sure about the standing of Lutheranism or any other Protestant faith.

Depends on the area.
And if they are Orthodox, they typically don't convert to Lutherans. There are a fair number of Finns and ethnic Germans there, which are the main people they talk to (not many ethnic Russians in some of those areas). Also the unchurched. There have been Lutherans in Russia for a long time. Most of the current synods are connected to the more conservative Finns.

It is my understanding that the pastor and local Orthodox Priest have an excellent relationship.

I think they are recognized, as they have permits to build and such.

That's not what I meant, although I can see why you took it that way.

Christians were every bit as oppressed in the Roman empire, if not more so, as they were in the Soviet Union, yet Christianity grew in the Roman empire. Who says it can't happen in what used to be the Soviet Union, or China, where Christianity is growing even as Americans turn away from it?

Is it Putin who is forcing the homosexual agenda on our children, or is it the leader of the free world and the peace making UN?

I'm not blind about who and what Putin is, but God has built His Church under worse, as long as the people were willing to follow Him.

Your entire premise is out of whack. Christ needn’t build His church under Putin. He builds it with His elect as the actual stones of the building. Why got to Putin or the ROC, who are built upon corruption and murder? A mere lip service to certain family values does not make you a Christian. It just makes you a religiously inclined sinner, who has not yet come under grace.
