DreamWorks Bails on Movie About Catholic Priest Sex Scandal
Variety ^ | June 13, 2013 | Justin Kroll /Stuart Oldham

"Variety reported in October that “Win Win” helmer McCarthy and scribe Josh Singer (“The West Wing”) had been tapped by Anonymous Content and Rocklin/Faust to work on the project, which follows the Pulitzer Prize-winning journalists who exposed the scandal."

The brief article above said the project was being shopped to Warner Bro. etc.

Hollywood has a chance to tell the story of what/how the Boston Globe uncovered a wretched scandal. Will they make a botch of it?

They sort of touched on that with “Doubt” a couple of years ago. A better play than movie, by the way. Hollywood didn’t do it justice.

I enjoyed the play. Yeah, the movie wasn’t that hot. I believed the priest was innocent.

That’s not so scandalous today. Didn’t hurt JFK, and Clinton, even admired as somewhat rakish characters.

Johnny Depp falling down a $150 million rathole is giving them second thoughts about spending hundreds of millions to rub it under our noses.

I wish they had made it, and I wish they'd lost a half a billion dollars on it.

Although I had expected to hate that movie, I though it was pretty good. Your post makes me wish I had seen the play.

It was worth $150 million to point out how evil Whitey was to the Indians and how horribly evil America is.

Pray for America to Wake Up

I thought the movie was sort of slanted towards the 'he did it' viewpoint. The play was so well written that you really don't know. When I saw it they polled the audience after each show. Then at the end of the run they gave the results. It literally was one-third thought he did it, one-third thought he didn't, and one-third just didn't know.

How can any of that compare to the Lone Ranger in a dusty three piece suit riding a horse on top a speeding train?

That makes sense. When watching the movie the point of the story seemed to be trying to set up a scenario where the question of whether he did it was left open ended but several little things DID seem to want to suggest he did - so your description of the play makes perfect sense. Hollywood just can’t resist taking digs at Christians, even when it affects the integrity of the script.

This is really about abortion, homosexual marriage and supporting Obama in his efforts to compel Christians to bow their knee before his totalitarian mandate. Over the last 60 years , something less than 2 percent of Catholic priests violated their trust and abused youngsters. Nearly all were homosexuals, admitted to seminaries during periods in which efforts to weed out candidates with unnatural appetites were slackened. If you watched the MSM,the sitcoms and late night comics you would get the idea that virtually ALL Catholic clerics were deviants. A big lie, told in the interest of advancing the anti-Christian agenda.

“A big lie, told in the interest of advancing the anti-Christian agenda.”

True. A member of my parish held a senior executive position at an entertainment conglomerate. The head honcho, in a moment of candor at a meeting of top inner circle executives, said openly that his goal for the company was to destroy the influence of the Catholic Church in the United States.

I thought that was a very revealing story, and totally believable. Hollywood has an agenda, and it’s not very friendly to traditional Christianity.
