A chairman of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops on Tuesday called for Congress to pass comprehensive immigration reform, citing remarks made by Pope Francis about the treatment of immigrants.
I call upon the House of Representatives to pass comprehensive immigration reform which is just and humane, said Archbishop Jose H. Gomez (of Los Angeles), who chairs the conferences committee on migration issues. The current immigration system, which causes so much human suffering, is a stain on the soul of our nation.
The pope over the weekend criticized a globalization of indifference when it comes to the status of migrant workers.

Take a flying leap off a short pier.
“I call upon the House of Representatives to pass comprehensive immigration reform”
He should have just said “amnesty” for short, since that’s what they actually mean. Could have saved a lot of O2.
This is primarily a desire on their part to strengthen their religion here in the U.S., since the illegals from South America are culturally Catholic, and are, in fact, many times more superstitious than their American counterparts. That’s a lot of people they’re hoping to absorb into their congregations. They also get the win-win benefit of seeming “tolerant” and “loving” according to the feeble minded notions of the world.
Further, your assumption that latino Catholics would be good for the church is not well-founded. The emotionalism of latinos, which you allude to, has made them ripe for the picking by pentacostal and fundamentalist Protestant sects (e.g., store front churches with sign in Spanish). Latinos require extensive social services from the state and the church, yet don't give much dinero back.
I wish the bishops silly liberalism would redound to some good for the Catholic Church, but I assure you that good will not hve been foreseen by the dopey Catholic bishops.
What could be fairer than that?
And the fact that you refuse to acknowledge the difference between legal and illegal immigration pegs you as a psychopath.
Gomez is shrewd. Don’t you doubt it at all.
The continually idiocy of the RCC in appointing types like the Mexican-born Gomez never cease to amaze me.
Well, maybe not. No wonder so many of the [mostly] faithful are departing.
I knew the Pope's stunt on that Italian island a couple of days ago wasn't his swiftest demonstration of keeping either the faith, or the law.
1 Pe 2:13-16, DRB
Be ye subject therefore to every human creature (= ordinance) for God's sake: whether it be to the king as excelling, Or to governors as sent by him for the punishment of evildoers and for the praise of the good. For so is the will of God, that by doing well you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free and not as making liberty a cloak for malice, but as the servants of God.
The meaning is, to every institution or appointment of man; to wit, of those who are in authority, or who are appointed to administer government. The laws, institutes, and appointments of such a government may be spoken of as the creation of man; that is, as what man makes. Of course, what is here said must be understood with the limitation everywhere implied, that what is ordained by those in authority is not contrary to the law of God.
Rather than instruct Congress, over which he has no authority temporal or spiritual, let him instruct his communicant, a trespasser on another's property, to get back home where he was placed by God; and where he was expected to come under the spiritual authority there, This is the right and just expectation of the archbishop to exercise his influence scripturally.
They have ignored the ancient proscription against theft in envy in favor of their social doctrines which they conjured out of thin air a century ago.
I don’t care less that he became a citizen the “right way.” That’s not the issue here. You seriously want this immigration bill passed? All he’s doing is rewarding law breakers, encouraging others to break the law and sin. What kind of bishop does that?
The fact that 70% of Hispanic voters—legal and illegal—vote pro-abortion is not “a stain on the soul” of Hispanics?
Archbishop Gomez is objectively pro-abortion, which makes him an enemy of my Church and my country.
