Reformed Catholics to Enthrone African Pope
All Africa ^ | 15 July 2013 | Wambugu Kanyi

The Reformed Catholic Church which is spearheaded by married priests plans to have an African pope. The church bishops who included Peter Njogu of Mt Kenya region diocese and John Karimi of Kirinyaga said on Saturday they are planning to have one centre of power in Africa where they will install a pope.

"We may not necessary call him pope like the Roman Catholic but we may get another name similar to that. Our church is growing very fast and it is the high time we Africans have one centre of power in Africa," said Karimi.

The bishops said since the Reformed Catholic Church has many followers in many countries, including Uganda, South Africa, Europe and Asia, there should be one centre of power especially in Africa unlike the Roman Catholics whose Pope is based in Rome.

The two were speaking at the Renewed Universal Catholic Church near Nyeri town after conducting a ceremony for over 10 new priests from the Roman Catholic who joined their church.

Karimi said the church has over 3,000 followers and called for unity with other churches in Africa to ensure the denomination sets up one centre of power. Many of the churches are in Nyeri, Nakuru, Meru, Narok and Nairobi counties.

"If we increase the number of deacons and churches, we shall be able to have our own Pope," said Njogu. The two also comdemned an increase in crime, prostitution, gayism, alcoholism, suicide cases and other forms of immorality and urged police to take remedial measures.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.
Either way, this "reformed" group should be known as the FAKE Catholic Church.

Nobody cares about this except for those that hate the Catholic Church and like to point out such minor schisms.

"Reformed Catholic" can refer to a number of denominations. The one in question seems to be a breakaway church in East Africa. Click here to watch a video.

They are free to do as they like (though I really do wish the Church would do as good a job controlling the use of the term “Catholic” as the NFL does in policing “Super Bowl”.

And here I thought the reformed Catholic Church was Anglican.

Hey, it’s an Alex Murphy thread!

Yeah - Murphy's Law: Anything that defames the Church in any way gets posted, no matter how little its value for discussion.

"There must be close to 40,000 ex-Catholic denominations out there..."

Fixed it. A regular algae-bloom of Protestantism, I reckon.

It's almost always about sex. Reckon they'll go pro-polygamy within the year.

Whoa, that was quick. I hesitated for a sec, thinking it might be snarky or even slanderous to mention polygamy when I really didn't know. So I googled "reformed catholic" and "polygamy," and found the following interesting article (Link).

Money quote:

"A lavish wedding ceremony is being prepared for a priest who has rebelled against the Catholic Church in western Kenya.

Father Godfrey Shiundu, who joined a more accommodating Catholic splinter church called the Reformed Catholic Church (RCC) four years ago, is marrying his long-time girlfriend in Kitale on Sunday.

The RCC is a US-based Catholic breakaway group that allows its clergy to marry and openly accepts polygamy, making it an accommodating alternative for some African cultures.

Announcing his forthcoming nuptials, Father Shiundu said he is going to slaughter 10 bulls for some 1,000 guests he expects at the celebrations.

What'd I tell ya?!!

Nah.

Just the Catholic tradition of syncretism.
