Not in the way the author means. It has more likelihood to become a Muslim, not a Christian/Jewish, theocracy the way we are going.

Absolutely correct.

I have worked among virtually every sect/type of Christian group and the ultra-Christian Dominionist and Reconstructionist movements are a tiny minority of Christians. And, not that influential for their numbers.

A bridge too far, for sure.

The New Testament has no mandate for the construction of a Christian government short of the return of Jesus Christ in person, so any attempt to construct one is by definition extrabiblical. You’d certainly get a grand fight against this concept by most mainline fundies, including the Southern Baptists.

The irony is that, as the USA becomes significantly less Christian by the year, the left-wing nutbags become more and more paranoid about a Christian theocracy. When these leftwing idiots see someone praying in public, they get weak in the knees and cry “Oh how could this happen in America!” as if the very foundation of this country weren’t Christianity.

What most fundies would like to see is evangelization success at the personal level. When the PEOPLE who carry out government are Christian, then Christian values will prevail and it will be, in fact, more tolerant towards other faith systems than a government of agnostics and atheists would be.

I’ve had, well, interesting Freep conversations with one person of this ilk that I won’t mention here, but a look back in my history will show it. To hear him, you’d think that Lutheran homeschooled fundies were successfully plotting to take over the world.

Despite that, and the comments in the following post from HiTech RedNeck, the extremist Left believes this a very real scenario, from what I have seen. Remember, these are people without a strong grasp on reality.

Kind of reminiscent of the proverb about the wicked (due to being godless) being afraid of blowing leaves. With no spiritual anchor that can be counted on, anything can upset your apple cart with ease.

Something that sets conservatives apart from liberals is that our big conspiracy theory -- that there was a communist plot directed from Moscow and that our government had been infiltrated at the highest levels -- turned out to be true. It is now a well documented fact of history that even liberals have to acknowledge. Meanwhile their big fear of a theocratic takeover is pure silliness, which to me is very telling. Note only their hopes and aspirations for the country but even their very fears are at odds with reality.

Communists wanted to do this.

98% of Christians don’t want to do that. Many would like to see a large proportion of Christians in the country, but that’s a different aspiration.

"Worried that US could become an autocratic theocracy?"

It already happened. Fundamentalist Leftism is a religion.

That’s right. And I wonder how paranoid liberals explain that despite the country being distinctly more Christian in the past and much less “progressive” it never came close to being a theocracy. I’m sure their theory must account for that somehow.

They push their definition of “theocracy” way to the sensitive end, is what they do. There were occasional clashes, and atheists had to sit through other people’s prayers from time to time, but nothing on the usurping scale of what, say, the Obamination is trying to get Hobby Lobby to do.

"The irony is that, as the USA becomes significantly less Christian by the year, the left-wing nutbags become more and more paranoid about a Christian theocracy."

Yes, at a time when we are beginning to see Christians sued by state governments for opposing gay marriage, when colleges and universities discriminate against Christian student organizations, when the military is cracking down on expressions of Christian belief, they are worried about a Christian theocracy?

But if you warn them of the growing Islamization of Europe - for which there is ample evidence - they will simply laugh, call you an Islamophobe, and stick their heads back in the sand.

For them a "theocracy" is a country in which a president or politician occasionally makes a reference to Christian faith, no matter how detached the statement might be from any specific policy - unless, of course, they know the president is lying about his faith, as with Obama.

The hard-core democrats and left-wing types seem far more concerned about “radical, evangelical-Christian, gun-toting, right-wingers” than anything else.

They think conservative Christians are just aching to get control and shove gays and all minorities into concentration camps.

Of course, as you all know, the irony in all this is that this is far more likely to happen to conservatives and Christians, either from an Islamic controlled government or a government run-amok like we’re getting now.

Extreme political correctness laws, gun-control, crony capitalism, government that refuses to enforce the rule of law regarding protection of the individual citizen, private property, First Amendment protections for its citizens and private enterprise, and an encouragement of fear among all the differing ethnic groups to further promote and cement schisms and factions in our populace.

All these things and more lead to autocratic, authoritarian government - don’t we have that now with same-sex marriage being thrown on the states, and Obamacare forcing individuals, businesses, and states into something or else?

The truth is, the secular, marxist, amoral autocracy is already here.
