The Pontiff was forced to arrive....by military helicopter....tear gas, water cannon...stun grenades

Good grief that sounds like a scene from some 60s-70s B grade sci-fi zombie-apocalyptic flick.

Here's hoping no harm comes to anyone there.

"We've got nothing against the pope," said Christopher Creindel, a 22-year-old art student from Rio who was protesting outside the palace. "This protest is against our politicians."

I'm sure Pope appreciates it! (Sigh)

Brazil is about to implode. It will be good. We need to see what happens when an intellectual/economic underclass rebels against the upper class. Oh, wait, the French Revolution, that’s right. It’s happened before.

If I were in Brazil, I would be leaving.

Just the place where you want to hold the World Cup and the Olympics. Are those organizations crazy?

Remember that Brazil was a colony of Portagual, Argentina, a colony of Spain.

Well Brazil has given to the World Cup its greatest player, Pele, the Michael Jordan of soccer.

As for the Olympics, a first for South America.

Makes one wonder how they're going to insure those events. Is the local government crazy?

I just got home from daily mass and I have 3 young adult pilgrims from my parish church who are attending WYD. They got to see the Pope come to Rio go by in the car he was in. The people of Brazil I had seen in a sprcial parish website set-up for this pilgrimage of the 3 young people are so very wonderful, warm, and welcoming folks. Even the protesters are leaving this Pope alone. Talked to a parishoner who had an iPad and was going to show to friends who did not have computers.

Yes, Lloyds. They’ve been in the business for centuries, presumably because they know when to avoid powder-keg situations, as alluded to above.

Well they most likely had to insure 2012 summer games in London and London has its share of characters.

If not Lloyds, there must be an insurance company that does it.

Just remember, the International Olympic Committee still decided that Brazil was better than Chicago.
