Gay Rights Activists Dump Vodka Outside Russian Consulate in NY

NEW YORK, July 31 (By Dan Elias for RIA Novosti) - Vodka was flowing outside the Russian Consulate in New York City Wednesday – not into glasses, but onto the street. Dozens of gay rights activists cheered as bottles were dumped directly opposite the consulate building – in the latest protest against Russia’s new laws on homosexuality, which critics say are part of a broader crackdown on Russia’s gay community.

The protest was organized by RUSA LGBT, an American gay rights group for Russian speakers, and Queer Nation, a New York-based organization that fights homophobia and anti-gay violence.

“We’ve received an appeal from 23 lesbian and gay activists in Russia that have asked us to do exactly what we’re doing,” Queer Nation co-founder Alan Klein said outside the consulate. “Boycott Russian products, boycott the Olympics and keep the pressure up.” The 2014 Olympic Winter Games are to be held in Sochi, Russia.

The protesters are also calling for the corporate sponsors of the Sochi Games, including Coca-Cola, Visa, McDonald’s, Procter & Gamble, and Samsung to pull their backing.

I’ll buy Sabra hummus to support the IDF, but I can’t bring myself to buy vodka ... not as long as rubbing alcohol is available as a disinfectant.

It’s funny, thought!

A sale is sale!

Exactly! Dmitri doesn't care if you buy it to drink or buy it to pour into a gutter, because he earned a buck (or Ruble) either way.

Didn’t the f@ggots riot when the police poured out the inventory of the mob run speakeasy known as Stonewall?

Eh? How does that work? Good stuff, BTW. Best supermarket hummus out there. (Not as good as mine, though ... ;} )

Stoli isn't even made in Russia. It's made in Latvia.

And there is little chance USA boycotts the Oympics. NBC and Nike would lose large amounts of money. A boycott is not going to happen. If they gay activists want to stir things up they should act all gay, hold hands, etc and force Putin's hand. I don't see him arresting and detaining athletes or spectators with the whole world watching. I could be wrong, however.

Iirc, the anti-Semites were boycotting it because the IDF has part ownership of the company. Through their retirement investments, maybe?

It’s a little more expensive than “Tribe,” but better. Not as good as mine, either ;-). Actually, I prefer baba-ganous; chickpeas are very high in Weight Watchers Points.

Sabra’s made in the USA with no discernible relationship to the IDF. But at least it’s kosher.

I prefer hummus to mayonnaise for sandwich spread ... not terribly concerned about "points". If IDF is somehow invested in Sabra, they've at least chosen good product. Smart.

Aside, I almost always check country of origin on things I intend to buy. Israel appears every now and then ... oddly enough, Syria, Egypt, Iran, Saudi ... never appear.

Funny how it works that way.

Oh, shows what I know. Another of those urban legends. It's still better than Tribe, though.

I abhor mayonnaise. I put yellow mustard on practically everything.

Sabra, Israel, IDF, and a bunch of foul commie protesters:

I found it on the internet, so it must be true.

Not even Duke’s?

I even “smuggled” some back to CA in carry on. A TSA agent absconded with my Strawberry Hill peach preserves because they were in a glass container. I told her I had Duke’s in my other bag to which she said, “That’s okay. We didn’t check the other bag.”

She might have known though that Duke’s comes in plastic. Though I still wonder if she stole my peaches....

Not even. *shudder*

I must have had a bad mayonnaise experience at some critical point in life, because I’ve hated it as long as I can remember.

A whole 23 activists in the whole country.

Which is 23 more homosexual activists than you'll find in Iran. I dare them to pour oil on the front of a mosque.
