I don’t know if Iran will target Russia actually, considering the first thing their last “president” did was meet with Putin after his election. There’s actually lots of evidence that the Russians supported the overthrow of the Shah and the current government in Iran.

As for Cunning_fish, it’s ridiculous to be concerned over which kind of Islam reigns supreme. When it comes down to it, the Russians have supported both kinds throughout the world. Alexandr Litvenenko, the fellow who was poisoned with Polonium 210, whose suspected killer fled to Russia and whom they refused to extradite, claimed that Al-Qaeda’s number two man (now number one) was trained by the FSB.

If Putin is so Christian, he needs to come clean about all the people beaten and murdered under his regime, as well as his reasons for supporting Islamic terrorism, as well as using his agents in the U.S. to spread communist propaganda in support of the far-left in south America. There was some worry that Iran would indeed target Russia out of Russia itself, when Iran tested long-range missiles back in 2009. It was out of Sergei Lavrov, who is still Minister of Foreign Affairs.

On top of that, given the more recent problems that Russia has had with Dagestani and Chechnyan Islamists, their helping Iran in any way contributes to many other continued dangers to Russia.
