Have the Lutherans consulted God on this ‘redefinition of marriage’, I wonder?

Are you talking about Lutherans, or the ELCA? There's a big difference.

Charles, the law in Minnesota allows for conscience objections on the part of clergy only. So, vendors of flowers, catering, etc. have no choice.

However, the conscience objection only lasts until a rogue judge finds it violates equal protection. And these people know the rogue judges.

The agenda here is clearly not one of "live and let live".

The courts unfortunately may make that decision for all of us.

Neither is it a marriage, no matter what it is called.

Of course, churches with large, progressive members, will lose out on stewardship of people who are tireless givers of their time.

As I have witnessed in a few progressive congregations, they must rely on paid staff, staff while no doubt good, decent and loyal, will never be able to accomplish what a group of devoted believers would.

Questions:

1. They got 1400 new members, but how many old ones did they lose?

2. More a long term question, but it would be interesting to see how long they KEEP the new members while old ones hemorrhage.

In fairness, this is not all "lutherans", but the ELCA. There are still truly Christian Lutherans like the WELS, LCMC groups etc.

We all ought to sue the ELCA and ECUSA for using the terms Church and Christian etc.

Religious ceremonies are typically not governed by state law, so Catholics and other churches that don’t recognize same-sex marriage are not required to marry gay couples — or any couples, for that matter.

TYPICALLY not governed?!!!! Anyone else not see this as a blatant shot across the bow?

These are “Lutherans” in name only. The ELCA ceased being a “Christian Church”. It is now a liberal cult.

The church lost at least one-half of their "old" or existing members!

One important thing to remember here is that the "very popular pastor" has pushed the gay agenda in this church, so I'm not certain just how much he'll "miss" his "old members" who are fleeing out the doors, in favor of his more modern-thinking new members.

“For Christopherson, using the term “marriage” will be one of the biggest changes. Central Lutheran pastors have held religious “blessing” ceremonies for same-sex couples since about 2000.”

What is the difference between a ‘blessing’ ceremony and a regular marriage ceremony? Is this something these particular Lutherans do for all couples, including straight/non-legally married or what? Why didn’t they use the term ‘marriage’ before if they thought it was possible?
