ALTOONA, WI, August 8, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Catholic parish in Wisconsin has told the Boy Scout troop it has sponsored for the last 20 years that it will have to find a new home in response to the troop’s decision to allow practicing homosexuals to join.
The Boy Scouts of America voted in May to overturn its longstanding policy barring openly gay scouts, and instead allowed troops to include gay scouts if they choose.
Boy Scout Troop 90, which meets at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Altoona, revised its membership policy to state that no boy could be denied membership “on the basis of sexual orientation or preference alone.”
Scoutmaster Bob Thill told the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram that while Troop 90’s families were evenly split on the issue, the troop changed the rule because “it's the way of the times, and I guess you've got to keep up with it.”
But Fr. Derek Sakowski, St. Mary's pastor, said he objects to the policy’s use of the term “sexual preference,” criticizing it as too vague. He pointed out that while same-sex attraction is not a sin according to the Catholic Church, homosexual behavior is.

He has sought clarification from the National Council on the matter, and says that if the new rules mean the Scouts cannot ban actively practicing homosexuals from the group, he will have no choice but to withdraw as a sponsor.
“We want to know if it fits with our Catholic values,” Fr. Sakowski said. “If I don't get a response, then I can't renew the charter.”
The Troop has until its current charter expires on December 31 to find a new sponsor and meeting location. But Thill says, “We're still hoping Father's going to have a change of heart.”

Oh, HELL no!!!! The fact a thoroughly prevented American pop culture is pushing it is reason enough to push back.
“evenly split” on the issue? I highly doubt it; probably more like 90/10 against if they would be honest unless of course they have same sex parents.
Hooray for the parish church and the priest for having a firm grasp on morality and understanding the next step of openly-homosexual (NOT GAY!!!!) leaders is clearly within sight.
Then half those families should drop out and stop funding it.
Every Christian and moral American needs to shun the BSA. If that happens they might actually realize their error. Otherwise there is no chance at all.

Time for a mass exodus of all God-fearing people from the Gay Scouts. A new scouting organization is needed.

Decisions have consequences. The Boy Scout leaderships decision lead to it’s destruction as immorality will have it’s usual consequence.
Why did the issue even come up?
If they have no homosexuals in their troop and none applying why bother to change their charter. They could have faced this when it came up. But: no the scout leader brought this on himself when he asked to change the charter.
The Priest is right and those with kids in the troop need to look for a new leader. I think this one has issues.
Boy Scouts of America is dying. 15 years from now no one will hardly remember it.
Like much else the touch the homosexuals and their enablers in the Government killed the BSA.
Several new groups are up and forming and eventually one or more will take the lead and overcome the BSA........
It did nothing of the sort. It MANDATES the inclusion of self-identifying homosexual scouts - there is no option to choose whether on not to allow these activist in.
There is going to be massive "compliance testing" by the Gaystapo beginning next year. Just let a troop try to turn away a homo-boy and they're in for a rude awakening.
Oh, they'll remember it all right. It will be perpetually held up as one of the last pummeled trophies of the Gaystapo. This was one of their biggest conquests by far - bringing down a once-conservative organization that had A SUPREME COURT DECISION ON ITS SIDE.
