Christians use prophecy to excuse laziness
RenewAmerica.com ^ | February 4, 2009 | Baldwin, Chuck

Posted on 08/14/2013 7:23:11 AM PDT by Sheapdog

In response to my two previous columns regarding the current development of a devilish New World Order, many professing Christians wrote me with comments to the effect that we should not be concerned about whatever global tyranny may be developing, because "it's all a part of God's plan," or "Jesus is coming soon," and similar statements. I, too, believe in the imminent return of Jesus Christ to earth. But, then again, so did Christians from every generation over the last two millennia. In fact, the Apostle Paul was looking for the return of Christ while he lived (Philippians 3:20). But does anticipation of Christ's Second Coming excuse personal neglect, indifference, and downright laziness? Of course not.

Had pastors and Christians of colonial America believed and acted as most Christians believe and act today, this country would still be a Crown colony and we would never have known the freedoms and liberties that our forebears bequeathed to us. Christians of that era, however, believed that it was their duty and obligation to fight for right and do everything within their power to resist tyranny. They also believed that God would honor and bless their efforts, which He certainly did!

It is extremely difficult for me to reconcile the apathy and slave-like mentality that seems to permeate modern Christendom (in America) with both our own heritage and the very Word of God. For example, the Apostle Paul is very clear when he writes that a Christian must never "do evil, that good may come" (Romans 3:8). Yet, that is exactly what many, if not most, Christians are doing today.

I realize these are older articles and that Chuck Baldwin might not be viewed very highly around here but thought these articles warrant some discussion given current circumstances.

It’s nothing but fatalism in disguise.

I’d add a pretty good dose of ‘fatigue’ to that as well.

Thank you for posting. This is a very real and very, very dangerous issue that simply must be addressed in many Christian circles.

I hear all these things like

Vengeance is mine saith the Lord

Watch and wait

He will fight your battles

so what is right?

"do evil, that good may come" (Romans 3:8)"

Like funding Obamacare's child sacrifice so they can chase Rove's fantasy of winning the midterms?

It’s not just Christians. Americans in general have become bored, lazy, and just want to be entertained. Any real thinking, commitment, or, forbid, call to action overwhelms them.

I see nothing in the book of Revelations that suggests I should just lie down and wait for the return of God. If that were true, why has anyone bothered to stand for righteousness over the last 2000 years?

I think I’ll continue to fight for what I believe in until God indicates that I do otherwise. I got nothing better to do while waiting.

So, the next time you hear some piety-draped Christian talking about how he won't engage the enemy and fight for liberty, because of prophecy, or some other spiritually-sounding platitude, just remember, it has nothing to do with prophecy, or anything of the sort: it has everything to do with old-fashioned laziness. My feeling toward him is the same as that of Sam Adams (a fellow Christian) toward the Tories of old: "If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest for freedom — go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!" Amen!

Hear YE! Hear YE!

I know Christians (especially women) who won't get vocal or get involved because Jesus is coming soon to rapture them out before things get bad...

I agree. However it is Christians this article addresses. Through out history they have fought and died for freedom because of the Lord God.

History is the best way to look at the future.
Many Jews and early Christians thought Rome was going to be overthrown in 70 AD.

Christians and Jews alike were killed during WW2 when they were too late or couldn’t afford to get out of Germany.

Stalin...
Kamer Rouge...
East Germany...

Close the border to get out comes first, and then the arrests and executions start.

It can happen here.

My own mother fits that description.

Sadly since I don’t buy that line of reasoning to her it means I’m not a ‘Believer’ and won’t be raptured.

We don’t discuss it anymore. There’s no point.

yldstrk, it is always right to RESIST EVIL !

Look at Elijah ! Look at Moses ! David ! Samson ! Read about Boniface sometime.

Corrupt governments have always tried to twist the meaning of Romans 13:1 where we are told to "submit to higher powers"...We are not to submit to EVIL "powers", but EXPOSE AND RESIST THEM ! Read Baldwin's excellent book, "Romans 13: The true meaning of submission".

Marxism is nothing more than satanism in action....Resist !

We are never more like Christ than when we confront evil to protect others at our own peril!

THANK YOU!!!!

Yes, sometimes, it feels like we Christians put our heads down and march along with the rest, allowing tyranny, corruption and moral decay to grow.

Mine also; we also don’t discuss it. Many things are not discussed anymore due to fatigue and being depressing. Also, stuff outside the mainstream parameters has become to tiresome of an exercise to deal with so is a no go zone.
The I expect to be raptured out of here so don’t bother me with this stuff is a last resort.
