I doubt she was raped in the middle of a service. Priests certainly seem to be able to target little boys who are part of a general mass.
We don’t need to do away with youth ministry. We need wise, discerning youth pastors that will challenge students with the Word in a way that is relevant to them. We don’t need more play time and pizza party youth ministries.
My husband is a youth pastor. He has been in youth ministry for almost two decades. Our students love and respect him because he does not talk down to them, water down the Word for them, or try to be their friend. They are learning the deeps things of the Word, learning biblical worldview and how to defend their faith. They are learning service to others, spreading the gospel and learning a deep love for missions. They raised almost $20,000 for missions last year. Their goal for this year is $30,000.
This generation is looking for something real and if they don’t find it in the church, they will look elsewhere. Statistics are proving it to be true. About 85% of churched teens are walking away from the faith of their parents and they are doing it at earlier and earlier ages. The church better find a way to reach this generation for Christ is a way that is relevant to them. We need to learn to be flexible when it comes to matters of style and immoveable in matter of substance.
