Catholic priests to advocate for immigration reform during Sunday services

The plight of the some 11 million undocumented in the U.S. has prompted the U.S. Catholic Bishops to mount a campaign for immigration reform this Sunday. Building on their long tradition of supporting and protecting immigrants, large Catholic dioceses like New York and Los Angeles -- meccas for immigrants throughout U.S. history -- will join others like Newark to preach and enlist the support of the people in the pew to advocate for reform.

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI struck that chord when he addressed the bishops of the United States in 2012: "With great generosity continue to welcome waves of new immigrants, to provide them with pastoral care and charitable assistance, and to support ways of regularizing their situation, especially with regard to the unification of families. A particular sign of this is the long-standing commitment of the American Bishops to immigration reform."

[SNIP]

Manasquan borough council did everything it could to prevent the men from gathering when the gatherings first started. Each time, federal law trumped local xenophobia and they threw in the towel because all their local laws and litigation would simply waste resources. But the hatred some residents had for these undocumented was chronicled in the weekly newspaper for months.

I have noticed that the men are orderly, do not congregate in groups of more than six or eight and bother no one. They do not make noise, litter or call attention to themselves except when a pick-up truck pulls in the lot. Throughout the U.S., businesses cannot attract the laborers to do the kinds of work these men want to do. We need to reform immigration laws so these men can get hired, pay taxes and further boost the economy.

What makes you think that Bishops support abortion?

Walked across the land bridge from Asia at the Bering Strait 15,000 years ago by most estimates.

Our earliest ancestors fled east from the Garden of Eden even before that.

My wife's family is, with a couple of exceptions since the fifties, all Cherokee back as far as anyone can find any records. Her grandfather used to say Cherokee knew they were special because for them the signs read, "Indians need not survive".

He figured a lot of people felt the same way about the Irish and Italians but being that honest about Europeans wasn't conside4ed polite.

Anyone who doesn’t think there are pro-abortion bishops and priests is just living in fantasy.

Then there are the many more bishops and priests who just don’t think abortion is important. The “Seamless Garment” was invented to give rhetorical cover for these lifelong Democrats, for whom abortion is one of a dozen “life issues”—and it’s at the bottom of the list.

In my book, bishops and priests who are campaigning for more immigrant citizens and voters are campaigning for abortion—because immigrants vote 70-80% for pro-abortion politicians.

I’m happy being a practical practicing Traditional Catholic!

The business of Christ’s Church is to save souls and prepare youngsters to lead a life pleasing to God and pleasing to them. They won’t have to grimace as they look into the mirror each morning.

Illegal immigrants belong in the country they slipped out of. They are trespassers and, as such, deserve to be kicked out of this nation. We can’t even defend America, but yet get concerned about a civil war in another country!

American Novus Ordo Churches need to tend to their main purpose: save souls of the nation in which your church is located. No wonder the new religion, invented subsequent to Vatican II, is faltering.

America has a community organizer for a president and the New Catholic Church has a pope who does about the same thing.

I’m torn. The Catholic part of me wants to welcome the stranger. But a few years ago I was working a temp job. My last day I was working in an area with some Mexicans who were doing drywall. Only one of the 6, the leader, spoke English. The day after I was laid off, I admit I thought: “Most of them probably aren’t in the country legally, but they have a job today and I don’t.” It was kind of grating. Another time I was laid off from a temp job by a Mexican who had trouble with English.

I remember one day on the Laura Ingraham show, a caller from Alabama said a number of Americans were laid off from jobs as their sup said to them: “The Mexicans are here.” The sup tried to walk this back but the cat was out of the bag. The Americans wanted a decent wage and some benefits, the Mexicans didn’t. It’s just not true that immigrants take only jobs that aren’t wanted, as the intelligentsia say.

Everyone in the U. S. other than native Americans are immigrants.

No they were British citizens on British soil, and then they they created the greatest nation in history, the United States, they didn't "immigrate" to it.

America then allowed immigrants.

Believe me, you still can (and should). But I would encourage you to read post #12 for additional information.

Third, they're really only here for the freebies.

Some are. Many are not. Otherwise why would they bother to line up as day laborers? Welfare pays better than work in a lot of states.

Build the WALL, then we can discuss who stays and who goes. Until entry "no con permiso" is darned near impossible, nothing will be solved.

Horse hockey. I was born here - I'm as "native American" as they are.
What you mean is that we are all descendants of immigrants ... and that includes "Native" Americans.

Dear Salvation,

Sorry, no, I was born in the United States. I’m a native of the United States of America.

If you disagree, please tell me of which country I’m native-born.

At over one million LEGAL immigrants per year, the United States takes in more LEGAL immigrants than all other countries in the world combined.

Why would anyone assert that we have any obligation whatsoever to permit even MORE folks in, especially folks who break our laws by immigrating to our country?

Catholics who support illegal immigration commit gravely immoral acts. This includes the bishops and priests.

Catholics who support the bishops and the priests in their call to grave immorality are themselves committing gravely immoral acts.

Implied is that the wealth of Americans is so great they should be forced to surrender it to the five billion starving people of the world who live under governments indifferent to their well being. It is better that Americans lose their wealth and prosperity than that these people change their home nations so that they too could lead prosperous lives of their own making.

The main goal is not to help the poor permanently. The purpose is to get the developed world to abandon its wealth. Once you understand that, it become more clear.

The Church believes that modern wealth and material comforts have lead people away from religion. Socialism is a tool to destroy the prosperity of the world. When nearly everyone is as poor and as miserable as a medieval European peasant, then the Church believes people will return to religion and achieve eternal salvation.

Replace the word “Church” with any political socialist/fascist/communist party word, and the article remains truthful to the desires of all these, including the RCC’s aims. After all, the RCC is nothing more than a political system that uses “religion” as its home-free base.

They (the bishops) could cite the Bible which speaks about the need to care for the “stranger”.

They could site the Bible that also says this....

Matthew 22:21 They said, “Caesar's.” Then he said to them, “Therefore render to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.”

2 Thessalonians 3:10 For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.

1 Timothy 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for members of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Ephesians 4:28 Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.

Romans 13:1-7 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God's servant for your good.

But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer. Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God's wrath but also for the sake of conscience. For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.

Yup, and NOT illegally.

I don't see anyone opposing immigrants, only illegals.

If you're willing to support illegals, do it yourself. Don't decide for me that I must do that because YOU want to.
