Do I go to mass tomorrow, and listen to a homily advocating amnesty for illegal immigrants? (Vanity)

Posted on 09/07/2013 3:59:35 PM PDT by steelhead_trout

Have head that tomorrow, September 8, parish priests, on order from their dioceses, will give homilies that unabashadly advocate amnesty for illegal aliens, that is, support the Obama administration's policy in this area. Last week's homily was, in my church, a taste of this; the priest worked (snuck?) the subject of immigration and immigrants into the homily. Since I've returned to the faith from a somewhat lapsed status over 4 years ago, I've endeavored not to miss any days of obligation. But I remember way back in 1982 when a priest gave an over-the-top homily supporting the nuclear "freeze" movement. I do not want to ever sit through something like that again. If I do, I will simply get up and walk out of church.

Helping sinners dig in sinfulness under pretense of charity an attacking others questioning that is thug religion. Might as sell listen to mohamed saying how Islam is victim of Christians.

If there is a social after the service, be sure to let other people know that the priest was referring to giving Mexican citizens US citizenship, because it is easier for them to take our wealth than repair their own disaster of a country, which they are not willing to do.

the changing of water into wine

The Catholic mass uses wine that symbolically ends up as blood.

You are there to RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION!!! Walk out during the sermon and let the Priest know afterwards that you did that and NOT to bring politics into the Church anymore!!

I’d get up and walk out and never go back. But then I’m not and never will be a catholic.

You all said more or less the same thing.

"you could always go to a Mass where the Mass/homily is in a language you don’t understand.."

"Of course you can always go to a foreign language mass near your residence, and let the whole message go over your head."

"My advice would be to bring a crossword or book or rosary beads and just ignore the sermon once it starts going in a direction you don't like."

"Try to remember that Mass is about you worshipping your Lord, not about any one priest’s particular homily."

"That is the advantage of a Latin Mass."--"I wish I had a nickel for every time I hear the term “Social Justice” at my Church."

Can this be real? Are you serious? This explains why the Catholic denomination is a pro-abortion/pro-homosexual agenda/pro-immigration, democrat voting denomination.

Are you conservatives? Then do something for your church or for yourselves, or for America, but do something.

The important part is the changing of water into wine and the bread into Christ’s body. Catholics generally give lousy homilies.

What church changes water into wine in its service?

Homily is in the vernacular.

“The Catholic mass uses wine that symbolically ends up as blood.”

Catholics believe that in the mass the wine does not symbolically become the blood of Christ, it really becomes the blood of Christ, as the host becomes the real body of Christ.

There is a tad bit of water added to the wine to symbolize the blood of course and the water that came out of Jesus's side after the centurion pierced him. That centurion became a Christian and is a Saint who has a HUGE statue in St. Peter's.

After the Bread and Wine are Sanctified by the Priest, it IS the Body and Blood of Jesus in our religion....no symbolism...the TRUE PRESENCE. This is what we BELIEVE, you can believe anything you want about your religion or ours.

I was an altar boy, and one mass, the pastor used his homily to urge support for [the fellow Catholics in] the IRA.

There are times to publicly take a stand, and in mass is not the place to do it. It is bad form.

I have in the past, reminded the pastor(s) about the need to address the needs of the congregation, not his own petty politics.

I pointed out to him that the good works of the church should net extend to those who are here as invaders. They are here to conquer, not assimilate.

Further, that your financial support, of the church and it’s works will be withdrawn until such time, as they begin to address the needs of the parishioners, not some obscure third world invader.

I have the same problem in giving money to my parish which is effing’ lib. From homos to illegals to especially, obama. But the way I look at it is that I;m giving to God and my church contributions have not changed 1 cent no matter how many times they cry every year that the parish might close blah blah..

I agree, the Church was astonishingly passive on the matter of same-sex “marriage”

You obviously weren't in attendance at my parish, where we had homilies and handouts every Sunday declaring the Church's opposition to the perversion of marriage (this was prior to the vote in Washington State -- the subject still comes up from time to time in the homilies).

The Roman church wants to increase its money and power. More Mexicans equal more Catholics.
