Government deputies say they were pilloried from the pulpit
Irish politicians who backed the recent change in abortion laws were told not to seek Holy Communion by members of the clergy.
The Sunday Independent reports that several government representatives have confirmed they were discouraged from receiving the sacrament.
They believe they were warned off seeking communion by priests angry at the governments support for the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill.
The paper says that a number of deputies, particularly in rural areas, said priests had warned them off from seeking Communion if they voted in favour of the Protection of Life During Pregnancy Bill.
One deputy told the Sunday Independent: I was approached by one priest recently and was told very clearly not to go to him looking for Communion that Sunday, as I would be refused.

Good. Baby killing is not OK.
It’s about time the churches started pushing back. Nothing surprises a bully more than getting what he gives.
Wow. Priests who really believe. Some of them are probably going to be in trouble with the Bishops.
Yep, here they go, under the bus:
“a spokesman for the Irish bishops, told the Sunday Independent that there had been no diktat about whether politicians should or should not receive Communion “
So this was a pro abortion bill with that title??
Agreed. I’m not Roman Catholic but what would happen if all Roman Catholic churches started refusing to serve communion at all until the pro-aborts stopped trying to take it?
All democrat politicians would simply stop going to church. But that won’t stop them from claiming to be Catholic.
Known in America as a "wake up call." So, WAKE UP!
One of a thousand might repent. Their actions demonstrate that they think they understand Church teaching better than the Church.
Nice to know that some Catholics are up to something other than voting for leftist politicians.
Doesn’t it seem that many of the clergy are politicians in their own right? Doesn’t it kind of remind you of the clergy in Jesus’ day...”Blind leaders of the blind”, seeking the best places at the banquet tables, looking out for their position in life rather than doing what God wants?
I have been getting this impression, that many people who go into the clergy want to be local celebrities. They like being liked and looked up to. Not saying all clergy are like this but you can definately see the pattern. I remember the church teaching us about how bad the Pharisees were—well Christian clergy can be Pharisees too.
I have read about how the Democrat politicians having been a part of the Knights of Columbus for many years. At one time, it may not have made that much of a difference because the Democrats were not 180 degrees in opposition to Christian teaching. Today there is a real moral war going on and the Knights of Columbus and the Church have to put their foot done with politicians who are mocking the Church’s basic teachings.
Eventually, the non-Catholics would be pushed out of the Church leaving those faithful to its doctrine to remain and be unified.
I think those Democrat phonies use the Church to get votes. That’s all they care about—getting votes. They probably like to get communion so that everyone can see them going up to the altar rail. “Hey, everybody, look at me. See what a good and virtuous Catholice I am. Don’t forget to vote for me in the next election.”
If ONLY they’d done that in the States 40 years ago :(
GOOD!! Wish to HELL they would have the RELIGIOUS COURAGE to do that here.
