The Vaticans new secretary of state, Archbishop Pietro Parolin said this week that the issue of priest celibacy is not dogma and is therefore up for discussion.
Its not a church dogma and it can be discussed because it is a church tradition, Parolin told the Venezuelan El Universal, according to a translation by the National Catholic Reporter.
The work the church did to institute ecclesiastical celibacy must be considered, said Parolin, who will officially assume the role of secretary of state in October. We cannot simply say that it is part of the past. It is a great challenge for the pope, because he is the one with the ministry of unity and all of those decisions must be made thinking of the unity of the church and not to divide it.....

Nonsense.
In the past fifty years, there have been only about five actual pedophile priests. The rest of the abusers have been abusers of minors.
The percentage of abusers among Catholic priests is lower than in most professions—much lower. Lower than the incidence of abuse among married clergy in other churches.
Being married does not “screen out” abusers. Married men abuse their own children at a higher rate than priests abuse children.
In other words, the Catholic Church does not have an especially acute problem with sexual abuse, and celibacy has nothing to do with it.
Unlike priestettes, it can be discussed. But it isn’t going to change.
First they’ll drop celibacy, then they’ll grind out priests and priestesses who are entangled in a same-sex sham marriage.
The lawsuits charging pedophilia will become a mushroom cloud over the Vatican.
Who among us doesn’t honestly believe that a new religion was created subsequent to Vatican II? To what purpose? Why to finish off the Roman Catholic Church.
Satan has a lot of time on his hands until the Second Coming.
Jesus wept.
Celibacy wasn’t required until the middle ages and it came about as a practical response to priests bankrupting their congregations with their own large families that had to be provided for through offerings...
Celibacy is unnatural , I say the church should attract more into the priesthood and not less. The church is under attack by Muslims that are multiplying like rabbits and are taught by their “god” to start multiplying at age 9... Time we joined the battle.
There are many sources. Start with a Google search.
Discuss it all you want. It isn’t changing, and shouldn’t.
Francis is an interesting fellow.
He does present the possibility of being a Catholic Gorbachev, but I’m not sure the Holy Spirit has not already taken that risk into account.
We will see.
Catholic apologists.
And we know that protestant churches and secular schools shuffle child rapists around to protect them from charges. Oh. Wait. That’s Rome that does that.
It won’t change.
Is that realy your best defense?
But Our Children Are More Traumatized! They ALL Believe They Are Going To Hell Because They Cannot Get Forgiveness Of Sins! Their Pedophyle Priests Told Them So!
Were Jesus and Paul unnatural - since both were celibate and praised celibacy?
Yes.
“Celibacy is unnatural...”
So Jesus and St. Paul commended something that is unnatural?
Wow. So, Jesus and St. Paul were unnatural?
Well, conversation beyond this point is fruitless. If someone, in a thread about the Church, is going to say Jesus and St. Paul are unnatural, then there’s really nowhere else to go.
No, you post the sources that can show us that fathers and Christian leaders are the the most probable pedophiles.
The issue is about denominations. “Protestant” doesn’t say much when comparing other denominations to the single Catholic denomination.
Besides, what about homosexuality, do all denominations have as many homosexual ministers as the Catholics?
I think there is a question of a system that attracts homosexual men to it.
It seems clear that you can’t post the quotes from the sources that can show us that fathers and Christian leaders are the the most probable pedophiles.
It seems clear that you don’t want to bother looking up the information that’s out there.
