The better way to eliminate pederasts, is not to make clergy and marriage mutually exclusive...

(Now there ARE 1,000,000 regrets - but it may be too late.)
Pedophiles are homosexuals or someone the victim may already know such as a parent, uncle, cousin, coach, teacher, etc. — not priests.

marriage cures sex criminals?
The Priests guilty of abuse were mostly predatory homosexual men.
The victims were almost all males past puberty.
Still wrong, but not something that married priests would resolve.
Also, we already have lots of married priests. Those Priests from other faiths, who are married, and convert, are allowed to stay married and to be Catholic Priests.

In the past fifty years, there have been only about five actual pedophile priests. The rest of the abusers have been abusers of minors.
The percentage of abusers among Catholic priests is lower than in most professions—much lower. Lower than the incidence of abuse among married clergy in other churches.
Being married does not “screen out” abusers. Married men abuse their own children at a higher rate than priests abuse children.
In other words, the Catholic Church does not have an especially acute problem with sexual abuse, and celibacy has nothing to do with it.
