The dogmatic and moral teachings of the church are not all equivalent. The churchs pastoral ministry cannot be obsessed with the transmission of a disjointed multitude of doctrines to be imposed insistently.Puts things in a different light, doesn't it? Regardless, the pope is speaking of how best to address these issues pastorally. The Church's position regarding the nature of abortion and sodomy remains unchanged. Catholics may disagree with the pope's pastoral opinions.
We have to find a new balance, otherwise even the moral edifice of the church is likely to fall like a house of cards, losing the freshness and fragrance of the Gospel.
That sounds like Vatican II reform talk. Let's change it and ruin it. Let's make it appeal to mainstream culture. Let's modernize it.
