Ive been surprised and even angered by the criticism of Pope Francis in the wake of his famous interview, but Ive been forced to admit that a significant number of serious Catholics found his words upsetting. Thats not something that should be dismissed lightly. It could, of course, all be a misunderstanding, and I think there is some of that. But there is perhaps a deeper question. If there is some fault involved, should we be looking for that fault primarily in the pope or in those who seem so reluctant to receive his message?

My first reactions to the press reporting about this new live-and-let-live Pope were that the Press is reacting as they always react to a new Pope of whom they know nothing deploying their timeworn planted assumptions to steer the new Pope in the direction of normal worldly politics. This article and others by people in a better position to know what is going on confirms my heretofore dataless analysis.
