A gallery in Rome has removed photographs of same sex couples kissing in churches after the Catholic Church threatened legal action.
The series of photos, by Gonzalo Orquín, was due to be displayed at the exhibition opening at the Galleria LOpera on Wednesday evening.
A letter arrived from the Vicariate of Rome, an organization that is part of the Vatican, which said the church is against the exhibition. I spoke to lawyers and for security reasons we decided not to show the photos, Orquín told The Local.
The Vicariate, an organization that helps the Pope carry out his functions as Bishop of Rome, confirmed it had sent the letter threatening legal action and said the photographs could harm the religious sentiment of the faithful.
Speaking to The Local, Vicariate Spokesman Claudio Tanturri said the photographs are in breach the Italian constitution.
Italian constitutional law safeguards an individuals religious feeling and the function of places of worship.
Therefore photos that are not suitable and do not conform to the spirituality of the place offend and infringe upon the advancement of man in the particular place for the expression of faith.
All but one of the 16 photographs were taken in churches in Rome, with gay and straight volunteers posing for Orquín.
We went to churches, took the photos at the altar and ran off...its a bit like a flash mob, said Orquín, who is himself Catholic. A number of times we left because there were a people praying. It wasnt easy.
Orquín said lawyers are currently working on the case and for the moment the photos will continue to be covered up.
Flavio Romani, president of gay rights organization Arcigay, said the Catholic Churchs reaction is grotesque.
In the images in which the church have seen provocation, I see an exchange of love, a type of public worship that creates harmony not contrast.
The indignation of the Catholic Church, therefore, is extremely grotesque, he told The Local.
Orquín, who is Spanish and has lived in Rome for eight years, said he found Italy to be a very homophobic county.
There arent other countries in Europe or the West that are backward like this he said.
‘The indignation of the Catholic Church, therefore, is extremely grotesque, he told The Local.’
I find your activities grotesque
‘There arent other countries in Europe or the West that are backward like this he said.’
Europe includes Eastern Europe, who have rejected sodomy out of hand. Only fading empires and stagnant police states run by socialist bureaucrats and child molesters (Britain and France) have acquiesced to the homosexuals agenda.

Security reasons, yeah right that’s the reason, they were afraid of Catholics causing a ruckus. If this A$$hat so firmly believes in gay right I suggest he go take those pictures in a mosque, but I bet he would mess himself just thinking about that because those peaceful mooslims would do a lot more to him then send a letter. Friggin coward queer.
why didn’t he take these pictures on Friday in the local mosque.
you beet me because I am typing with one hand. The letter should have invited them to check with the local mosque to see if they would object.
I feel the same way about Dan Brown and his Catholic and Christian bashing books. He should write a book about Mohamed and Ali Talib. Than I would respect him.
Never happen, Catholics are safe to bash, mooslims will kill ya.
I can think of few things more repulsive than 2 men kissing. It’s almost like showing the cross to a liberal.
Lev 18:22 Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.
Lev 18:23 Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion.
Lev 18:24 ¶ Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you:
Lev 18:25 And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants.
Lev 18:26 Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you:
Lev 18:27 (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;)
Lev 18:28 That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you.
And there were also sodomites in the land: and they did according to all the abominations of the nations which the LORD cast out before the children of Israel.
Correct me if I’m wrong but that one picture looks like it was taken in a Catholic Church. If so I’m so glad the Vatican sued!
An obvious, cynical, calculating, self-serving act of provocation.
Sometimes I just wish ... nah, then he'd just claim to be a poor oppressed martyr, like all the other gay bogus martyrs.
OK. Focus. I pray for the photographer that he would have what I want for myself: true repentance and contrition for sins, well-being and salvation.
That took an effort.
Isn’t Russia part of Europe? and no, I wouldn’t consider Russians a bunch of primitive tribals. At worst, they’re only slightly behind America, Britain, and France, where it counts in terms of military might. Actually, scratch that. They would overwhelm France and Britain in a DEFCON scenario. What’s even worse, is the fact that Russia is a likely candidate for crossing national boundaries and giving Alexander Litvenenko a Half-Life Sentence.
