Residents of a Florida city who have had "God Bless America" signs posted on their front lawns for months have been ordered by local officials to remove them.

MyFoxTampaBay.com reports that the First Baptist Church of Bartow distributed some 300 signs to residents following a Fourth of July celebration. The city only permits residents to display signs during major holidays is starting to crack down on the displays.

The first amendment to the Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, or impeding the free exercise of religion"

All states are bound by the Bill of Rights, as per SCOTUS ruling, and even a ciy council is so bound

It would seem to me that this is a law meant to keep the area from looking cluttered and commercial. Originally, that would be a good idea. BUT There should be an exception for patriotic signs. If their local bigwigs don’t cave to the people’s wish, the people should put up flags on their lawns.

Must be lots of snowbirds in Tampa Bay who brought their liberal politics with them.

No wonder Florida is generally not regarded as part of the South (Panhandle excepted).

OBTW, any sign with `America’ & `Allah’ in it would probably read, “Praise Allah! Death to America!!”

;^)

A lot of Florida cities (mine included) have VERY STRICT rules on signs. Our local paper has been carrying stories for years of people fighting sign regulations. You need approval, it has to be a certain size, it has to be only 30 days, blah blah blah.

Businesses get tortured especially. I remember one boutique that was practically run out of business by the ordinance. Their sign was a cute “fat lady” lounging on a garden bench, holding a boutique name sign. Sort of cartoony and cute. The city forced them to take it down, because there was no way it could be brought into code.

When push comes to shove, people vote for these city boards, and like certain restrictions, never really thinking through the consequences. A classic example of you get what you vote for.

sign.

Taxpayers who put signs on the property they own and pay taxes on should be considered exercising their first amendment rights. I hope every tax-paying homeowner goes out and gets a sign, even if it has nothing to do with the content of the signs the City is currently targeting. Enough is enough!

The problem is, few people actually pay attention to board elections......That's why the Hitler-wannabes wind up on the boards, same as HOAs.

All very reasonable options.

Of which I would avail myself if my town ever decides to do something so ludicrous.

All the more reason to go out and vote on these “less important” elections.

Several years ago a friend and I were dismayed by the very liberal woman in a position, I can’t remember what it was, but she was very leftist, out of keeping with the area - but she kept getting elected, even though people didn’t seem to like her personally. My friend (as a homeschooling lesson) went up and down several streets with her children talking to homeowners about the official and making them aware of some the officials votes and actions. For instance, the official stated she was far more concerned with the rights of young kids getting incarcerated, than with the spike of crime in the area. Blunt just like that.

She lost the election by 15 votes. What a lesson for the kids.

No, no, no .... tampering with a mailbox is ... and if someone desires to demand that you do something about what is on your mailbox, you can tell them to go to hell ... and if they decide to DO something ... get it on film.
