Poll: majority of Catholics who attend Mass weekly support same-sex marriage, women’s ordination
Catholic Culture ^

Posted on 10/08/2013 2:47:48 AM PDT by ClaytonP

A majority of Catholics in the United States who attend Mass weekly support same-sex marriage and the ordination of women to the priesthood, according to a Quinnipiac University survey released October 4.

The survey found that 56% of Americans, 53% of Catholics who attend Mass weekly, and 65% of Catholics who attend Mass less frequently would support “a law in your state that would allow same-sex couples to get married.” Support was stronger among Catholics of ages 18-49 (64%) than ages 50-64 (62%) or 65+ (46%).

According to the survey, 72% of Catholic women back same-sex marriage, while 49% of Catholic men do.

The survey also found that 52% of Catholics who attend Mass weekly, and 66% who attend less frequently, favor the ordination of women to the priesthood. Support was stronger among Catholics of age 65+ (68%) than ages 50-64 (64%) or 18-49 (57%). By a slight (2%) margin, women are more likely to favor women’s ordination than men are.

According to the poll, 53% of Americans believe that abortion should be legal in most or all cases, while 49% believe it should be illegal in most or all cases. By a 61%-32% margin, Catholics who attend Mass weekly believe abortion should be illegal in most or all cases; by a 64%-29% margin, Catholics who attend Mass less frequently believe that abortion should be legal in most or all cases. By a slight (2%) margin, women are more likely to oppose abortion than men are.

93% of Catholics who attend Mass weekly, and 85% who attend less frequently, have a favorable or very favorable opinion of Pope Francis.

I dunno about that...were those questions asked to the respondents in that exact language?

In this day and age wouldn’t you think so-called practicing Catholics that held those heretical views would become ‘word of faith’ Christians, Baptists or another feel good about our inequities denomination rather than endure the guilt?

I just wonder if these ‘practicing Catholics’ have statues of baal around for good luck too?

4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

I was upset until I saw it was a Quinnipiac poll! They are usually greatly canted in a direction they want opinion to go. Catholics who attend mass regularly still maintain the idea that homosexuality is a sin and a perversion.

This may be anecdotal, but from what I’ve seen the hierarchy of the Catholic Church is Conservative while its flock is Leftist, while the hierarchy of the United Methodist Church is Leftist and its flock (in the South anyway) is biblically based and Conservative.

These people are not Roman Catholics.

Rather they attend the Novus Ordo ‘service’ which was promulgated subsequent to the formation of a new religion as a result of the Vatican II fiasco. This confab gave modernists everything they wanted....and more!

Too bad those who still hold fast to the tenets, rubrics and liturgy and regularly attend true masses in chapels and churches all across America and the world couldn’t be polled.

These Catholics believe that the string of popes following Pius XII were in serious error by not correcting by eradication this new religion.

Now they’re confronted with a pope who is actually much worse than those who preceded him as he is making the serious flawed Church an utter confusion. His writings and interviews have shown him to be a figure, not of mystery, but one that revels in the new religion. He makes a mockery of the Ten Commandments as well as the rest of the Holy Bible that has been the cornerstone of Catholicism for eons.

From the poll site:

“Catholic opinion on abortion is similar of the opinions of all American adults:
16 percent of Catholics say abortion should be legal in all cases, compared to 19 percent of all Americans;
36 percent of Catholics say abortion should be legal in most cases, compared to 34 percent of all Americans;
21 percent of Catholics say abortion should be illegal in most cases, compared to 23 percent of all Americans;

I am a woman that attends mass “less frequently” I will admit, and I don’t believe this survey for one minute!

With a large Catholic family on husbands as well as my side, I can’t think of one actual Catholic that believes in abortion (of course we’ve got the non-Catholic airhead SIL), and the few that believe in civil unions for gays don’t believe in gay marriage, and think the ceremony should never be performed in a church by a clergy member.

There are some that think women could be Priests, but they are relatively indifferent to the idea.

Fifty years of less than subpar catechesis coupled with bishops who don't have the courage to speak out against it...yeah, the Catholic Church in America is in deep crisis and not many people can see it, or see it and don't care.

The hierarchy of the Catholic Church in the U.S. is still mostly liberal Democrat. The bishops’ conference is HARD Left. They STILL support Obamacare.

BAD NEWS: I just read that Cardinal Sean O’Malley and Bergoglio have been friends for many years. O’Malley was in Assisi a few days ago. He is thought to be very influential with Bergoglio. We’ll know it’s true if Nancy Pelosi gets a big, splashy funeral in St. Peter’s.

My chapel is 45 minutes away, yet I make the trip every Sunday and Holy Day of obligation.

I’m not saying this makes me a martyr, but as one traditional priest told me, and others, that if we could make it to one mass a month and not join the gaggle who comprise the N.O. gatherings, that would be sufficient.

Reading scriptures, praying and saying the Rosary could be quite sufficient in the eyes of God.

Catholicism’s hard-left turn in the ‘80s is what drove me out of it. The bishops did the DNC’s dirty work by protesting Reagan’s nuclear armament policies. They wanted a U.S. nuclear “freeze” (read: unilateral disarmament) regardless of the Soviets’ actions. Couple that with the rise in popularity in Catholic circles of “liberation theology,” aiding communist insurgencies like those in El Salvador and other areas in Central and South America.

And now this...

CBS news validates and analyses Qunnipiac Polls. In other words it is a left-leaning poll that is not reliable and oversamples democrats.

If anyone with a brain thinks those numbers on homosexual “marriage” are correct with Mass attending Catholics, they are not playing with a full deck.

“From September 23 - 29, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,776 American adults with a margin of error of +/- 2.3 percentage points. The survey includes 392 Catholics with a margin of error of +/- 5 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones.”

So this is all based on the opinion of 392 Catholics? 392?!

“The Quinnipiac University Poll, directed by Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D., conducts public opinion surveys in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Iowa, Ohio, Colorado, Virginia and the nation as a public service and for research.”

I wonder what states this one was from. Different areas have populations of Catholics that at least vote differently from Catholics in other areas. Must be a secret, couldn’t find it.

“Support for women priests grows with age, from 57 - 32 percent among Catholics 18 to 49 years old to 68 - 28 percent among those over 65 years old.”

Interesting.

Many Catholics I know believe strongly in (at least) two things, and they believe that Jesus believes in them, too, interestingly:
1. Don’t judge
2. be nice

So, they can’t listen to those “haters” who want to judge homosexuals or women in crisis pregnancies. They will be nice.

Also, it’s not nice to say that someone male can do something and someone female can’t. It sounds like the Church is saying women aren’t good enough, or are only fit for having babies. That’s not nice.

If the church wants to teach its people, instead of just collecting their money and serving donuts, it needs to address these trains of thought, and how/where they diverge from real understanding of God’s love and truth.

When there’s not a proper mass with the exception of one hours away what’s a person to do?

The modernist Novus Ordo new religion is not the one I have any respect for. This post Vatican II religion is not, I would think, pleasing the Holy Trinity!
