Frank the Hippie Pope: A Lutheran Satire Production
YouTube ^ | 10-20-13 | Hans Fiene

Posted on 10/20/2013 8:41:47 PM PDT by Conservaliberty

For those who have never heard of it, Lutheran Satire is a YouTube channel of informative and funny videos by a Lutheran pastor Hans Fiene.

This video is his reaction to Pope Francis' antics. Just remember it is satire--and Fiene has a rather cutting sense of humor.

So let’s do a Catholic satire of the chubby Martin Luther nailing his theses onto the Wittenburg church door after which he was arrested and placed on a Diet of Worms.

Do we really want to go there?

Unfortunately, its pretty well done, and it would be really funny ... if it wasn’t so true.

The Colts are about to beat Manning and the Broncos.

Thus we know there is no God.

(Do I need a winkie or something here?)

This absolutely summarizes my bafflement with this chaotically-minded pope.

elcid. I’m not a Catholic. But I have been a big admirer of the Church as it has stood for hard biblical principles when a lot of its protestant allies were pretty wimpy. Although I do not believe he was selected as God’s representative on Earth, I do believe the Pope has a huge role as the most prominent spokesman for Christianity in the world. No close second.

Obviously, I’m not guided by having to think he is somehow specially chosen by God as God’s personal leader of all Christians. I evaluate him as a man who won a very important election and then by who he becomes as a leader. (Caveat, I do believe he is chosen by God in the Pauline sense that God raises up and destroys nations and leaders. But that does not mean God necessarily approves of each and all of them.)

The video seems to me a valid, if biting, criticism of Francis’ performance as a leader so far. He’s either very sloppy or he is working to pull the Church away from rather clear scripture. The later would be consistent with the odd way he came to power—suggesting something like a coup in the Vatican. In his actions, IMO, he has undermined the entire Christian faith—Christians cannot deny scripture and have much left and he is tiptoeing very close to that line.

That’s from a Christian who loves my Catholic friends, admired Benedict very much as a great leader, and expects to meet many Catholics in New Jerusalem.

Criticism from the people who love you should sometimes be listened to.

If you would like to, you are more than welcome. It sounds like it might be rather poor quality, but that’s a matter of opinion.

I won’t be offended.

It’s funny because it’s true.

That would probably at least result in more meaningful Roman Catholic - Protestant dialogue than in the last 4 centuries or so...

I don’t want to be too hard on Francis. He’s trying to make nice. He verges on evangelical attitudes at times. He looks like he is trying to find a living way around a lot of dead bones, and even if it is a bumble it is better than nothing.

You know what I frankly think of the video though. It sounds like Protestants trying to out-Catholic Catholics. That’s a Luther problem. Whatever the later Calvin’s faults, and he had some significant ones, that wasn’t among them.

Well... they’ve got their own historical axe to grind, complaining that the Roman Catholic church was unbiblical. This seems to carry that complaint on, even in areas where I’m not sure they’re giving Francis an honest reading. This whole business of persons and intrigue, however, really sounds quintessentially un-Christian to me. Since when did Christ want cults of sinners’ personalities? Color me a very roll-eyed Crazy Evangelical.

Lutherans are as or more lib than Catholics....to us anyhow....very few to our right

Pentecostals at times.....some primitives and assemblies

And yes....this Pope is not like the last two no matter how much the diehards parse him off

Shame too

Thank you for your thoughtful & well thought out reply.

So here’s some food for thought: a lot of us oldfashioned pre-Vatican II Catholics have said for years,

“Never trust a Jesuit”

Jevvies seem to seesaw between orthodox defenders of the Faith, or wild experimenting revolutionaries. In both instances they regard themselves among Catholics as the best trained, best focused & best qualified to ponder weighty issues within the Church.

Look up their history. Several Popes have banned them.

Oh you’re just being too ideological.

And yes, as soon as I heard this pope was a Jesuit, my heart sank.

Nothing surprising here.

So what does a faithful Catholic DO now? Seriously, where do you go for redress of this situation? Or do you just sit down, shut up, and smile? This would seem to be a turning point for the Catholic Church, to me. It cannot possibly be business as usual, as daily we see more and more questions concerning this pope.
