Stanek weekend question: What is your view of abortion supporters?
Jill Stanek ^ | Jill Stanek

I admit I often demonize abortion supporters in my mind. The ones I usually deal with are the hard core industry or political types, and they can indeed come across beyond cold and calloused.

Nevertheless, having been convicted through Scripture, I’ve been trying (although admittedly failing as often as I succeed – but I’m getting better, truly!) to more even-handedly communicate with them.

This week I read Romans 15:15-16 and took the passage our direction. The pertinent sentence:

I’m doing this because God gave me the gift to be a servant of Christ Jesus to people who are not Jewish.

I applied that sentence to me and my mission:

I’m doing this because God gave me the gift to be a servant of Christ Jesus to people who are not pro-life.

dnews-files-2013-01-message-bottle-76-years-later-660-jpgSt. Paul’s mission was to try to share the Good News with a people group that was completely unaware and lost. Alongside stopping abortion, that is our mission, too. We cannot really stop abortion if people’s hearts aren’t changed.

On a related note, I’m currently reading Mark Crutcher’s book On Message with my Wilberforce Leadership Fellowship mentee Rachel Bush, and this passage really struck me:

There are no unimportant discussions about abortion…. Even among abortion clinic employees, there is a creeping sense of doubt about what they are doing. Morale is low, turnover rates are astronomical, discouragement is rampant, and while they would never admit it, every rational pro-life argument they hear amplifies their doubts….

The final reason to take every discussion on abortion seriously what I call the “Note in a Bottle” phenomenon. Imagine that you are stranded on a desert island. You find a bottle, put a note in it and toss it in the ocean hoping that someone will find it and rescue you. With the realization that what is written on that note may be your only hope for survival, you are probably going to write a pretty thorough and compelling message.

That same attitude should be your guding principle anythime you are discussing abortion. Always assume that the words you are using will one day be repeated to a pregnant woman who is considering abortion. It may not happen for years, and you may never know about it, but there is a reasonable probability of this happening. When it does, the message you gave may be the only hope that baby has for survival.

How much truer this is for those of us involved in online pro-life work. Our messages are never in a bottle. They’re there for any and all to read, and who knows who is reading what at which particular point in their lives?

So I’m curious to know how you view and communicate with abortion supporters? What is your experience? What are your thoughts?

Once, many years ago, I wrote a letter to the editors of the New York Times discussing the comparison between abortion and slavery. The idea was not original with me, but I doubt whether the abortion pushers had ever considered it. I think the occasion was that it seemed odd that a prominent black politician had just come out in favor of abortion.

Basically, I made the point that what abortion and slavery have in common is that they both take a certain group of human beings and pretend, against the evidence, that they are less than human. All human lives are precious, but for some reason some humans are regarded by some people as not fully human, so it’s OK to enslave or kill them if it’s convenient. I don’t remember if I pointed out that that was also one of Hitler’s arguments, used to justify medical experimentation and the Holocaust.

I pointed out that biological science, and not just religious belief, demonstrates that a baby in the womb is both alive and human.

A few days later I got a phone call from an angry woman who said she worked in the editorial department of the Times, and was checking to be sure that I wrote the letter and that it was signed with my real name. I said yes. And the letter was published. Why, I don’t know. I guess they still had a grain of honesty about their profession back then, and published at least a few opposing viewpoints once in a while.

Anyway, I hoped what I said might make at least a few of their liberal readers think twice about what abortion really amounts to. It treats certain human beings as less than human.

I make ‘no distinctions’ between those tattoed woman and the Nancy Pelosi or Hillary Clinton elites, and any in between who call for the murder of the unborn children. They are all on the same level if they support abortion.

What is really bad about that protest is some of them demanding “free” abortions are men. The rest look like men. Some I’m just not sure.

1 Peter 4
15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people’s matters. 16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter.[e]

I honestly believe that a Child is taken back to God in these cases or rather their spirit, but i have no words to describe how i feel about women going out and getting pregnant and then killing their babies.

Thinking Secular i could find plenty to say, but the people who are involved in covering up their irresponsibility in this sort of thing will be in torment their whole life if they have a conscience and i do believe most people has one.

I heard someone say that the person whom God had created, destined, and anointed to be elected President in 2012 had instead been aborted in 1970.

Yes, they were, but if these were the reason abortion is required (it's not "legal", the Court can't pass laws) it would still be forbidden.

Abortion is absolutely required by sins of which I, and many others have been guilty - lust (especially), fornication, greed, envy (to a degree), failing to honor my father and my mother, among others.

Identifying "abortion supporters" with these costumed performance artists will never get at the roots, and pulling it up by the roots is now the only way out.

It is not a political problem, it's a sin problem, and conversion is the answer.

Of course, evangelizing the lost is hard work, and a gigantic PITA besides, so political activism can be appealing.

Most, if not all, female abortion supporters have had an abortion or have been responsible for one. Once one allows that to happen, darkness resides within them, and there is nothing, in my mind, that could ever be told to a pro-abortion individual to release that demon(s). We aren't that strong. It must be released by God, and that happens through prayer, fasting, suffering, the Sacraments. Mother Teresa knew the answer for the end of abortion, and she let us all know what that was. (See my tagline.)

abortion is ‘a political issue’ for Politicians to use.....not of life. Those who support abortion simply want an excuse for disposing of the evidence which sexual relations can, and often does bring ...a baby.

The mother chooses what to do with her body long before there is a baby...and where the choice is made... to have sexual relationships. Abortion is basically woman wanting the right to dispose of the evidence of their choices.

You can say that abortion is based on sin....but certainly those supporting abortion don’t see it as that. They want to make their own laws.....and do.

I definitely believe that many problems and issues society has faced and NOT resolved are because those whom God had determined would bring the solutions were aborted.

They remain a Mother regardless if the child lives or is murdered...they are either the mother of a child that lives or one they've murdered and dies.
