While it is fine that you believe this way, there is a very significant number of people who believe that without linage there is no authority and they have plenty of good reasons for their beliefs.

So?

Let me tell you about Aliens and Bigfoot!

. John Ahmanson, an early mormon, called him “Vor Tids Muhamed,” Finnish for “a Mohammed for our time,” in his book by that same name.

Golly... I wonder WHY???

“I Will Be a Second Mohammed”

In the heat of the Missouri “Mormon War” of 1838, Joseph Smith made the following claim, “I will be to this generation a second Mohammed, whose motto in treating for peace was ‘the Alcoran [Koran] or the Sword.’ So shall it eventually be with us—‘Joseph Smith or the Sword!’ ”[1]

It is most interesting that a self-proclaimed Christian prophet would liken himself to Mohammed, the founder of Islam. His own comparison invites us to take a closer look as well. And when we do, we find some striking—and troubling—parallels. Consider the following.

  • Mohammed and Joseph Smith both had humble beginnings. Neither had formal religious connections or upbringing, and both were relatively uneducated. Both founded new religions by creating their own scriptures. In fact, followers of both prophets claim these scriptures are miracles since their authors were the most simple and uneducated of men.[2]

  • Both prophets claim of having angel visitations, and of receiving divine revelation to restore pure religion to the earth again. Mohammed was told that both Jews and Christians had long since corrupted their scriptures and religion. In like manner, Joseph Smith was told that all of Christianity had become corrupt, and that consequently the Bible itself was no longer reliable. In both cases, this corruption required a complete restoration of both scripture and religion. Nothing which preceded either prophet could be relied upon any longer. Both prophets claim they were used of God to restore eternal truths which once existed on earth, but had been lost due to human corruption.

  • Both prophets created new scripture which borrowed heavily from the Bible, but with a substantially new “spin.” In his Koran, Mohammed appropriates a number of Biblical themes and characters—but he changes the complete sense of many passages, claiming to “correct” the Bible. In so doing he changes many doctrines, introducing his own in their place. In like manner, Joseph Smith created the Book of Mormon, much of which is plagiarized directly from the King James Bible. Interestingly, the Book of Mormon claims that this same Bible has been substantially corrupted and is therefore unreliable. In addition, Joseph Smith went so far as to actually create his own version of the Bible itself, the “Inspired Version,” in which he both adds and deletes significant portions of text, claiming he is “correcting” it. In so doing he also changes many doctrines, introducing his own in their place.

  • As a part of their new scriptural “spin,” both prophets saw themselves as prophesied in scripture, and both saw themselves as a continuation of a long line of Biblical prophets. Mohammed saw himself as a continuation of the ministry of Moses and Jesus. Joseph Smith saw himself as a successor to Enoch, Melchizedek, Joseph and Moses. Joseph Smith actually wrote himself into his own version of the Bible—by name.

  • Both prophets held up their own scripture as superior to the Bible. Mohammed claimed that the Koran was a perfect copy of the original which was in heaven. The Koran is therefore held to be absolutely perfect, far superior to the Bible and superceding it. In like manner, Joseph Smith also made the following claim. “I told the Brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding its precepts, than by any other book.”[3]

  • Despite their claim that the Bible was corrupt, both prophets admonished their followers to adhere to its teachings. An obvious contradiction, this led to selective acceptance of some portions and wholesale rejection of others. As a result, the Bible is accepted by both groups of followers only to the extent that it agrees with their prophet’s own superior revelation.

  • Both Mohammed and Joseph Smith taught that true salvation was to be found only in their respective religions. Those who would not accept their message were considered “infidels,” pagans or Gentiles. In so doing, both prophets became the enemy of genuine Christianity, and have led many people away from the Christ of the Bible.

  • Both prophets encountered fierce opposition to their new religions and had to flee from town to town because of threats on their lives. Both retaliated to this opposition by forming their own militias. Both ultimately set up their own towns as model societies.

  • Both Mohammed and Joseph Smith left unclear instructions about their successors. The majority of Mohammed’s followers, Sunni Muslims, believe they were to elect their new leader, whereas the minority, Shiite Muslims, look to Alī ibn Abī Ṭālib, whom they consider Divinely appointed, as the rightful successor to Muhammad, and the first imam. (Ali was the cousin and son-in-law of the Islamic prophet Muhammad). Similarly, the majority of Joseph Smith's followers, Mormons, believed their next prophet should have been the existing leader of their quorum of twelve apostles, whereas the minority, RLDS, believed Joseph Smith's own son should have been their next prophet. Differences on this issue, and many others, have created substantial tension between these rival groups of each prophet.

  • Mohammed taught that Jesus was just another of a long line of human prophets, of which he was the last. He taught that he was superior to Christ and superceded Him. In comparison, Joseph Smith also made the following claim.

“I have more to boast of than ever any man had. I am the only man that has ever been able to keep a whole church together since the days of Adam. A large majority of the whole have stood by me. Neither Paul, John, Peter, nor Jesus ever did it. I boast that no man ever did such a work as I. The followers of Jesus ran away from Him, but the Latter-day Saints never ran away from me yet.”[4] In light of these parallels, perhaps Joseph Smith's claim to be a second Mohammed unwittingly became his most genuine prophecy of all.

[1] Joseph Smith made this statement at the conclusion of a speech in the public square at Far West, Missouri on October 14, 1838. This particular quote is documented in Fawn M. Brodie, No Man Knows My History, second edition, (New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1971), p. 230–231. Fawn Brodie’s footnote regarding this speech contains valuable information, and follows. “Except where noted, all the details of this chapter [16] are taken from the History of the [Mormon] Church. This speech, however, was not recorded there, and the report given here is based upon the accounts of seven men. See the affidavits of T.B. Marsh, Orson Hyde, George M. Hinkle, John Corrill, W.W. Phelps, Samson Avard, and Reed Peck in Correspondence, Orders, etc., pp. 57–9, 97–129. The Marsh and Hyde account, which was made on October 24, is particularly important. Part of it was reproduced in History of the [Mormon] Church, Vol. III, p. 167. See also the Peck manuscript, p. 80. Joseph himself barely mentioned the speech in his history; see Vol. III, p. 162.”

1. We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

Mormons deny that Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost are one God. The Bible is clear that there is only one God, not many gods (in many universes).

Before me was no god formed. Neither shall there be after me. I, even, I am The Lord, and beside me there is no savior. (Isaiah 43:10b,11)

For there is one god. And one mediator between god and men, the man Christ Jesus who gave himself a ransom for all to be testified in due time (1 Timothy 2:5)

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness. God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. (2 Timothy 3:16)

For unto us a child is born. Unto us a son is given. And the government shall be on his shoulder. His name shall be Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6),

In John 8:24 Jesus warns against unbelief: "I said therefor unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins. Then they said unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus smith unto them, Even the same that I said unto from the beginning." (See Isaiah 43:10a)

Jesus is God, the only God there is. He, the Father and the Holy Ghost are one. (1 John 5;7). Unless you realize this, that he is the first and the last, the beginning and end, the only God there is and the only God that can save, you shall die in your sins (as Jesus warns) and spend all eternity in the lake of fire as Revelation 14:10,11 and 20:14,15 and 21:8 clearly indicate.

To be saved one must place their faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross, then he will be saved. Works do not save or keep one saved (God's gift by grace through faith is irrevocable -- once a son, always a son -- He will never leave of forsake His own.

Mormons believe in a different God--a different Jesus, a different Father and different Holy Ghost. Their false gospel is damning many to hell.

don't ever find Jesus using this sorry excuse about the Old Testament that you use: "Oh, there's different OT interpretations...and there's the Septuagint vs. the Tanahk..." Not at all. He quoted it constantly. Before referencing a passage, He would ask, "Have you not read...?" or He would say, "You have heard it said..."

Indeed. The argument from ambiguity has 2 forms which are use. That of using ambiguous statements to support a doctrine, as RCs with Purgatory, and that of dismissing what Scripture most clearly states by claiming all Scripture has a level of ambiguity, or is cultural, and which attempt i just dealt with.

The late prohomosexual apologist Walter Wink exampled this, arguing "he crux of the matter, it seems to me, is simply that the Bible has no sexual ethic. There is no Biblical sex ethic." And which specious argumentation is refuted here by God's grace.

Mormons deny that Father, the Word and the Holy Ghost are one God.

And sing SONGS about it!!!

(click)
Praise to the Man!

Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!
Jesus annointed that Prophet and Seer.
Blessed to open the last dispensation,
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Praise to his mem'ry, he died as a martyr;
Honored and blest be his ever great name!
Long shall his blood, which was shed by assasins,
Plead unto heav'n while the earth lauds his fame.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Great is his glory and endless his priesthood.
Ever and ever the keys he will hold.
Faithful and true he will enter his kingdom,
Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven;
Earth must atone for the blood of that man.
Wake up the world for the conflict of justice.
Millions shall know 'Brother Joseph' again.

Chorus
Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

HMMMmmm...

I must be seeing things...

Genesis 13:13
Now the men of Sodom were wicked and were sinning greatly against the LORD.

Genesis 18:20-21
20. Then the LORD said, "The outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is so great and
their sin so grievous
21. that I will go down and see if what they have done is as bad as the outcry that has reached me. If not, I will know."

Genesis 19:4-7
4. Before they had gone to bed, all the men
from every part of the city of Sodom--both young and old--surrounded the house.
5. They called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us so that we can have sex with them
."
6. Lot went outside to meet them and shut the door behind him
7. and said, "No, my friends. Don't do this wicked thing.

Psalms 12:8 The wicked freely strut about when what is vile is honored among men.

Doonesbury Cartoon for Feb/08/2013

Isaiah 3:9 The look on their faces testifies against them; they parade their sin like Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to them! They have brought disaster upon themselves.

2 Peter 2:13b Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.

Ezekiel 16:49-50
49. "`Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy.
50. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen.

2 Peter 2

1. But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord who bought them--bringing swift destruction on themselves.
2. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into disrepute.
3. In their greed these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping.
4. For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for judgment;
5. if he did not spare the ancient world when he brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;
6. if he condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly;
7. and if he rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men
8. (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard)--
9. if this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of judgment, while continuing their punishment.
10. This is especially true of those who follow the corrupt desire of the sinful nature and despise authority. Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings;
11. yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord.
12. But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand. They are like brute beasts, creatures of instinct, born only to be caught and destroyed, and like beasts they too will perish.
13. They will be paid back with harm for the harm they have done.
Their idea of pleasure is to carouse in broad daylight. They are blots and blemishes, reveling in their pleasures while they feast with you.

But there IS hope!!!

1 Corinthians 6:9-11

9. Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived:
Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders
10. nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
11. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

If you could NOT change, you would be in most pitiful shape...

But wiley Wink was American biblical scholar, theologian, at Auburn Theological Seminary (After being denied tenure at Union)! The kind of "scholar" that gets cited in liberal Wikipedia articles, in which most any interpretation of the Bible can be treated as viable (not to say WP does not have many good documented articles).

But i was opposed by a WP editor for citing Robert Gagnon as a scholar (in opposing prohomosex polemics), even though he is Associate Professor of New Testament at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, with B.A. degree from Dartmouth College, an M.T.S. from Harvard Divinity School, and a Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary.

The reason? Pittsburgh Theological Seminary was a biased institution! Unlike those wonderful secular schools and cemeteries.

The protestant movement and the desire for religious freedom lead to the founding of the United States.

Which was a reason why Mormonism was opposed, as Smith was both elitist and ran a theocracy, its physical means of defense.

"Mormon theology teaches us to think of matter [Scripture, God, and history] in new and creative ways. ."

Fixed.

Would you believe a religion from a man that

1. Claims to have had visitations by God the Father and Jesus Christ His Son, the angel “Moroni,” John the Baptist, the apostles Peter, James and John, plus the Old Testament prophets Moses, Elias and Elijah? (Elias in the New Testament is simply the Greek rendering of Elijah, a fact Joseph Smith was ignorant of).

Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The LORD saith it; albeit I have not spoken? Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord GOD” (Ezek. 13:7, 8).

2. Claimed that the angel “Moroni” (who is nowhere found in the Bible) told him every single church, without exception, and their essential beliefs (which Mormons build upon) were corrupt? (in which case the gates of Hell did prevail against His church, that of born again believers: Mt. 16:18; cf. 1Cor. 12:13).

But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed(Gal. 6:8).

3. Wrote the Book of Mormon by hiding an occultic “seer stone” in his hat and dictating words?

There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things are an abomination unto the LORD” (Dt. 18:10-12)

4. Writes in the same book a fantastic and detailed tale of an immigration of Hebrews to South America, which supposedly formed a vast society. Later, after a tremendous civil war, one tribe of this fictitious people is said to have migrated to N. America, even to New York. And that Jesus Christ appeared to these Indians after His resurrection in Israel.

For all of which people and events (unlike the Bible) there is no real archaeological evidence (not even for their weapons). In addition, DNA and other scientific evidence actually refutes it, while the Bible makes it clear nothing of this sort took place (we are assured we have the full record of Jesus post resurrection appearances in the Bible, and in which Jesus went up to Heaven from Bethany, not to return until He comes in the clouds: Lk. 24:50; Acts 1:1-11).

God's covenant promised the land of Canaan (where Israel exists) to Abraham and his descendants, not America: “And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God” (Gn. 17:8).

Jesus appeared to His apostles and disciples in Israel (where they could be questioned), not anywhere else: “Moreover, brethren, I declare unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have received, and wherein ye stand; By which also ye are saved, if ye keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren [fellow contemporary Israelites] at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me [the apostle Paul] also, as of one born out of due time: (1Cor. 15:1-8).

5. Claimed that God instituted an Aaronic priesthood through a decedent of Joseph, completely contrary to the express commands of God's Word. Only descendants of Levi could be priests and offer sacrifices, and even the Lord Jesus, while on earth, could not be a Aaronic priest.

And thou shalt appoint Aaron and his sons, and they shall wait on their priest's office: and the stranger that cometh nigh shall be put to death. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, And I, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the firstborn that openeth the matrix among the children of Israel: therefore the Levites shall be mine” (Num. 3:10-12).

For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood” (Heb. 7:14).

6. Claimed that he had more knowledge than all lawyers and doctors, and boasted no man (not even the Lord Jesus) ever did such a work as him in building a church? (Mormon “History of the Church,” vol. 5, p.289; vol. 5, p.467; vol. 6, pp.408-9).

6. Instituted a priesthood that can receive revelations (as needed) that add to and contradict the Bible?

7. Taught that polygamy was acceptable to God and even desirable, and that took multiple wives for himself?

8. Taught that God the Father was once a man who achieved Godhood by being obedient to the “god” over Him? (A. of F., p. 132, 430)

9. Taught that God has a physical body and “celestial wives” through whom He begets “spirit children?” (LDS Apostle Orson Pratt, The Seer, p. 158, 172; http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mormon_cosmology#Pre-Mortality)

10. Taught that faithful Mormons will likewise achieve ”godhood,” and can perpetually have spirit children with their wives? (J of D, Vol. 11, p. 269, August 19, 1866)

And founded a religion (Mormonism), which also

11.Taught that black people were cursed with black skin (1 Nephi 12:23; 13:15; 2 Nephi 5:21; 30:6; 3 Nephi 2:14-15) and therefore (until societal pressure brought about a “new revelation” a few years ago) they were excluded from the priesthood? Brigham Young even stated, “If the white man who belongs to the chosen seed mixes his blood with the seed of Cain, the penalty, under the law of God, is death on the spot. This will always be so." (March 8, 1863), "The Persecutions of the Saints—Their Loyalty to the Constitution—The Mormon Battalion—The Laws of God Relative to the African Race", in Watt, G.D.; Long, J.V., Journal of Discourses Delivered by President Brigham Young, His Two Counsellors, and the Twelve Apostles, and Others, 10, Liverpool: Daniel H. Wells, 1865, pp. 104–111, http://contentdm.lib.byu.edu/u?/JournalOfDiscourses3,4272 .

12. Preaches “another gospel,” “another Jesus,” by “another spirit,” which false gospel the the Holy Spirit of the Bible clearly warns of and condemns? (2Cor. 11:4; cf. Gal. 1:6-9).

13. Teaches we are not saved solely on the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ - on His blood and righteousness - but by obedience to the “Mormon gospel” and Joseph Smith?

14. Teaches we should believe and follow a immoral deceiver, who effectively exalted himself above the Bible and all churches, and who taught a false gospel and multiple fictions, and had a printing press destroyed that would have exposed him (and who soon died shooting back at his enraged killers), rather than turning from sin to God, and trusting directly in the Biblical Lord Jesus Christ, who voluntarily died for us to pay the price for the forgiveness of our sins with His own sinless blood, and rose again in victory?

The Vicar of Rome, the Holy Father, The Mantle of Peter, or The Pope at least is the final authority on earth and he is that authority only because he holds the priesthood and has been elevated and elected by those that also hold the priesthood.

Here we go again. On that basis then the church is invalidates as it is the result of souls following a man in the desert who ate insects and an itinerant Preacher when both of these were rejected by those who sat in the seat of Moses, who were reproved by .

Without rejecting the magisterium, God often preserved truth by rising up men from without it to reprove them. And thus the Lord reproved the Scribes and Pharisees from Scripture, as He did to the devil, that being the supreme transcendent material authority as the assured wholly inspired Word of God, which it is abundantly evidenced to be.

And who established His claims upon Scriptural substantiation in word and in power, upon which basis we reject Mormonism. with its "cunningly devised fables" (2Pt. 1:16)

And as regards conformity to Scripture and your audacious claim that the pope, the RC counterpart to Mormonisms "Living Prophet," "is that authority only because he holds the priesthood and has been elevated and elected by those that also hold the priesthood;"

that is absurd, as nowhere does the Holy Spirit distinctively even call the NT pastors (bishops/elders, same office: Titus 1:5-7) "priests." Instead, the word which the Holy Spirit distinctively uses for priests*, is “hiereus” or “archiereus.” (Heb. 4:15; 10:11) and which is never used for NT pastors -except as part of the priesthood (hierateuma) of all believers - nor does the words presbuteros (senior/elder) or episkopos (superintendent/overseer) which He does use for NT pastors, mean "priest." Presbuteros or episkopos do not denote a unique sacrificial function, and hiereus (as archiereus=chief priests) is used in distinction to elders in such places as Lk. 22:66; Acts 22:5.

Do not even try - as others vainly argued before here - to assert presbyteros means priest, as it simply does not, but it is rendered such because despite the Scriptural distinctions in titles, Rome made the word “presbyteros” (elders) to mean “priest” by way of functional equivalence, supposing that the bishops turn bread and wine into the literal body and blood of Christ which is then physically consumed.

Yes even then, all Christians engage in offering sacrifices. (1Pt. 2:5,9; Rm. 12:1; 15:16; Phil. 2:17; 4:18; Heb. 13:15,16; cf. 9:9)

Wrote the Book of Mormon by hiding an occultic “seer stone” in his hat and dictating words?

That isn't what MOST people 'learn' from Mormon sources!!

Isn't a picture supposed to be worth a thousand words??

The following are the LYING images that MORMONism has produced, KNOWING that they represent something FALSE!!
