Dozens of area clergy members have signed a letter to the owner of the Washington Redskins and the commissioner of the National Football League, calling on the team to recognize that words can cause great pain and change its name.
The derogatory term redskin offends many Native Americans and others in this country, said the letter signed by 61 faith leaders. This word, defined in the dictionary as a slur, should not be publicly marketed and celebrated in America, which is built on the ideals of respect and inclusion.
The missive marks the latest effort in the push to change the teams name and was endorsed by leaders across faith communities, including Lutheran, Baptist, Jewish, United Church of Christ, Buddhist and Muslim.
Among those signing the letter were Alton B. Pollard III, dean of the Howard University School of Divinity; the Rev. Luis Leon of St. Johns Church, attended by every president since 1816; the Rev. Wallace Charles Smith of the 150-year-old Shiloh Baptist Church in Northwest Washington; Rabbi Michael Lerner, editor of Tikkun Magazine; and the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, President Obamas fiery former pastor in Chicago.

The leftists never give up!
What about separation of church and state, you doggone hypocrites?
If I were Dan:
“Don’t you guys have something important to do?”
“There is NOTHING “derogatory” about the name Redskins, and I have plenty of Indian leaders around the country substantiating that fact.”
“So go find somebody else to bother, and make you feel important, because I’m changing nothing!”
(YES, I said “Indian” just to tweak them.”)
They will be the “Bravehearts” by next fall. A good investment would be to buy stuff with the Redskins logo now. That stuff will be hard to find in a few years.
White America has spoken. They'll be offended for them.
These religious leaders need to look out for their own skins, don’t they, when they start messing with the function of another legitimate business?
These aren’t “Faith Leaders”.
They are Marxist Frauds!
...and was endorsed by leaders across faith communities, including Lutheran, Baptist, Jewish, United Church of Christ, Buddhist and Muslim.

Is it any wonder why so many Americans shy away from organized religions, when they come out with this mealy-mouthed BS just to give the appearance of fitting in to the politically correct flavor of the day? F ‘em all!
And these are the people that are supposed to be representing God?
Buck up.
What he should do is sell the naming rights, for ten billion dollars.
