The iconic red border of Time magazine will frame Pope Francis as its 2013 Person of the Year, the magazine announced Wednesday morning. By the judgement of Times editorial staff, the popeelected earlier this year after a surprise resignation by predecessor Pope Benedictwas the most influential global newsmaker of the past 12 months. Earlier this week, Time narrowed the finalists down to ten, then five. Pope Francis ultimately won out over Edward Snowden, Syrian president Bashar Assad, Texas senator Ted Cruz and gay rights activist Edith Windsor.

I bet Hussein is LIVID, he wasn’t named. After all he’s sacrificed for this country.
Arguably a Catholic
I have nothing against the Pope but he’s had no impact on me at all and I still haven’t figured out where he really stands on anything. I think of him like Chance the Gardener.
I thought this was a Conservative site. Why are we promoting a Left Wingnut rag that’s sliding quickly into the sewer on here?
I’m comforted by the knowledge the POY isn’t Mily Cyrus.
You forget that even conservative sites need to know what is going on in regards to “current events”, like it or not. Pope Francis has been honored as “person of the year”.
Do you always repeat yourself?
Second it also.
Agreed 100%. But the left sees him as a fellow traveller and wants to push that as hard as possible. They think he is the tool they can use to (in Obamaspeak) "fundamentally change" the Catholic church and its social teachings. At this point, I'm not sure if they are right or not.
Marxist of the Year by Time Ragazine.
Pray America is Waking
OK, I’m not Catholic and if any of my friends out there are, you can tell me where to go if you think I’m wrong, but I think the media gave Pope Benedict XVI the Republican treatment and now Pope Francis is getting the Democrat treatment.
God Bless Pope Francis!
We will never be able to repay our debt
because of to him.
When hasn’t Time been Marxist?
What has he done except make some controversial statements including support for socialism? My guess is that is why Time gave it him.
What, no Obamacare guru?
Alas, what a missed opportunity. It would have been awesome to watch the meltdown in both parties that would have resulted if finalist Ted Cruz had gotten the nod.
Who cares what TIME says?
Other than the Pope, the back-up choice would have, if it was me, be Sen. Ted Cruz.
If it wasn’t for the Popes’(?) recent remarks, it would have been Assad.
Time should change its name to....Times UP
Please see post number 8, thank-you.
This is because OT1H Francis is a liberation theologian of Latino America, and the other that Benedict is (gasp) German!
In truth, Pope Francis is of a “pastorial” backround, unlike Pope Benedict, retired, who was more “theological” .
The very fact that Time Magazine chose Pope Francis for their man of the year should make their choice suspect. They smell a kindred socialist soul. I mean can’t you figure it out? Time Magazine made this choice. Why? Think about it.
Nothin personal BIGGIRL.... I just hold Time Rag Inc, and the other Liberal rags in contempt.
Point being be suspicious of any Catholic from South America. They have a special culture of communist worldview.
Some awards are a dishonour to receive. Time’s Man of the Year is one of them.
However, His Holiness will not stoop to Time’s level by dignifying it with a response, even a polite refusal.
Rather that it was and is a reflection that the Church is truly unversal, beyond Europe.
The liberal Times is just being consistent. The rag loves socialists.
Hussein made Time’s Person of the Year in 2008 and 2012, the years of his election and re-election as POTUS. Pope Francis made Person of the Year in the year of his election to the papacy. Couldn’t be more consistent.
