except Catholic traditionalists
What personal expression or statement by the pope would alter this notion?

Pope Francis should end the heavy handed crackdown that he initiated against the Italian based Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate, restore its right to say the Mass in the traditional Latin form, and reaffirm that right generally on the terms stated by Pope Benedict. Pope Francis should also walk back from his expressions of disdain for traditionalist Catholics as self-absorbed retrogrades who are unhelpful to the Church's evangelical mission. Finally, the Pope should clarify his remarks against the rich and against high incomes, which were so categorical as to suggest a frame of mind that is hostile to effort and achievement in the material realm as being contrary to Christian faith and good conduct in matters spiritual.
