Swiss Guard Claims Vatican Official Made Sexual Advances to Him
The Daily Telegraph (UK) ^ | 1/6/14 | Nick Squires

Cardinals, bishops and other clergy made sexual advances towards a member of the Swiss Guard, it has been claimed A former Swiss Guard has claimed that he received sexual advances from cardinals, bishops and other clergy while serving in the elite corps, the Pope's personal bodyguard.

The ex-soldier claimed that he received 20 to 25 explicit sexual advances, including on one occasion from a cardinal who invited him up to his rooms in the Vatican.

The former Swiss Guard, who insisted on remaining anonymous, made the allegations to a Swiss newspaper, Schweiz am Sonntag, which published them on its front page on Sunday.

The unnamed soldier served in the Swiss Guard during the papacy of John Paul II, which lasted from 1978 until 2005, and it was not clear why he had only now decided to come forward with the claims.

"One night, sometime after midnight, I received a call on my mobile phone. The person on the other end said he was a cardinal and asked me to come to his room," he said.

The former Guard also claimed that he had received advances from a member of the Secretariat of State, one of the Vatican's most powerful departments.

The clergyman who approached him was later transferred from his post, the former soldier said.

He said that he reported the unsolicited attention to his superiors but was accused of misunderstanding conversations as a result of his purportedly poor Italian.

Urs Moser, a spokesman for the corps, told the Swiss paper: "Rumours of a gay network inside the Vatican are not our problem. Our men concern themselves purely with religious and military matters."

There have been long-standing suspicions that many Catholic clergy in the Vatican are gay, despite the Church's strict teaching that the act of homosexual sex is........

The Swiss Guard made advances on me when I visited the Vatican.

Prove they didn't.

I always wondered why they had Swiss and not Italian guards.

I know the kings of France at one time had Scottish guards. I think other Kings had guards from other countries too.

Maybe from the memory of the praetorian guards killing the emperor so they wanted guards who had no personal axe to grind or use for that matter.

Oh my. Sounds like the media have officially released their new publication, "Vatican Hustler". Complete with "real" letters an' everything!

Can it still be called 'Catholic bashing' when Catholics post it?

Seems so, doesn’t it? And it’s also apparent that no one’s familiar with what it takes to train and serve as a Swiss Guard. And, oddly, the “former Swiss Guard” remains nameless.

to me the guard sounds like a typical bitchy, aggrieved homosexual who may or may not have been propositioned at some point, but probably left his job (or was fired) for other reasons, and now wants to take down as many people and cause as big a stir as he can within the Church as revenge

Do they even get to carry guns? I know you always see them with those long intricate looking spear things. Sort of like what the Wicked Witch of the West’s guards carried.

Who would you rather have fighting on your behalf?

Swiss pikeman mercenaries were legendary heavy infantry hundreds of years ago.

“I’m not the one accusing Catholics of bashing themselves!”

LOL,

If the prelates in Vatican City were “bashing themselves” they would have no need to make a “booty call” for a Swiss Guard.

Clericalism. Clericalism is the problem, I tell ya. Clericalism and too much rule following. And devotion to the Latin mass. Clericalism, rule following, and devotion to the Latin mass. Those are the problems with the Church.

Hamlet: Act IV, Scene V: "Where are my Switzers? Let them guard the door."

The Swiss Guard is the Seal Team 6 of Guarding. Its always been that way.

As you’ve probably learned by now (judging from some of the posts following), they’re well armed—Sigs, Glocks, among other lethals and the sword they know how to use, sprays, with with almost instant access to much heavier firepower. Those uniforms are deceiving, plenty of room for concealment. And besides armed & unarmed combat skills, each one of them learns at least one additional language to his native French/German/Italian, usually two or three. Someone said they were like Seals. True—but with Secret Service aspects and certain “Third Order” religious duties.

"Who am I to judge?"

If you are part of the church, you are supposed to judge those within the church.

"I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people. Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner—not even to eat with such a person. For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? But those who are outside God judges. Therefore “put away from yourselves the evil person.” 1Cor 5:9-13
