Time to Check In Again on the "Rapture Countdown"

Lists are always a big deal around the New Year, so I thought I'd check in to see how "Rapture Ready" I need to be (Click Here).

Since our friends at the "Rapture Ready" website haven't updated yet for 2014 (as of this writing), I can report the good news that the "Rapture Index" stands at 183 on December 30, 2013, down from the year's high of 188.

I know Jesus spoke of famine, wars, and earthquakes in the Olivet Discourse, but I'm not sure he was speaking of distinctly American interests such as unemployment, inflation, high interest rates, and "the economy." Apparently, volcanoes, ecumenism, and anti-semitism are a problem (they are a "5"), while the antichrist and tribulation temple are not (they stand at "3").

I guess I can relax a bit until things crank up back again to 188 or better.

These folks mean well, and granted, Christians should eagerly anticipate the return of the Lord. But do these guys ever have a moment of self-reflection? Might this approach not be so "biblical" after all? Of course not, they are invincibly right. Besides, what do I know . . . I am amillennial, and don't take the Bible seriously.

“I am amillennial, and don’t take the Bible seriously.”

yikes. I’m a post-tribber and take the Bible very, very seriously! Weird statement or it could be the ice cream causing me to have low blood sugar.

Darby Translation (DBY)

Sgs 2:3
As the apple-tree among the trees of the wood, So is my beloved among the sons: In his shadow have I rapture and sit down; And his fruit is sweet to my taste.

J. N. Darby translated the bible in 1890. This translation of the Bible is in the public domain.

Anyone who says “I am a millenial probably sits around listening to Justin Bieber all day.”

I long ago quit arguing with fellow Christians about these things. Nor do I mock anyone’s viewpoint on millennial or dispensational matters. Christians play into enemy hands when they publicly ridicule each other.

Actually, Christians play into enemy hands when they develop websites like Rapture Ready.

Not disagreeing with you, but the mocking and ridicule I’ve seen of Christians disagreeing on the Lord’s return serves no good purpose.

Gamecock, I’m sure that you are aware, but others may not be.. even though he’s expressing some silly humor here, Dr. Kim Riddlebarger is the senior pastor of Christ Reformed Church in Anaheim, California; he’s also a part time Professor at Westminster (West) Theological Seminary, and a co host of the nationally syndicated radio show THE WHILE HORSE INN. Dr. Riddlebarger is also a very well respected author of many books, including “THE CASE FOR AMILLENIALISM”. This book is by far the best book I’ve yet read regarding Eschatology, presenting a scholarly defense of the historic Reformed view of Amillenialism. He also DECIMATES Dispensationalism in the process, which is amazing in itself, as Dr. Riddlebarger was a confirmed Dispensationalist before he “saw the light” of Covenentally Reformed theology.

He has made available a 35 part lecture series, titled “Amillenialism 101”, based upon the book, “A CASE FOR AMILLENIALISM”. This lecture series is freely available in Mp3 format, on his Blog, “The Riddleblog”..(scroll halfway down the page, it’s on the right side of the page.) Here’s the link.. =http://kimriddlebarger.squarespace.com/

IF you wish to hear a SOLIDLY Biblical explanation of the Reformed Amillenial view, this is the series to listen to, or the book to read. If you wish to know WHY we do not adhere to Dispensationalism, this is also a good series to hear as well..or better still, read the book, A CASE FOR AMILLENIALISM. You’ll be pretty amazed at Dr. Riddlebarger’s expertise in handling the Biblical evidence in defense of this eschatological viewpoint..

unemployment-—

The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat. 1 Thessalonians 3:10

high interest rates-—

If you lend money to one of my people among you who is needy, do not treat it like a business deal; charge no interest. Exodus 22:25

You may charge a foreigner interest, but not a fellow Israelite, so that the LORD your God may bless you in everything you put your hand to in the land you are entering to possess. Deuteronomy 23:20

inflation-—

Then they threw dust on their heads and shouted while crying and mourning, ‘How horrible, how horrible for that important city. Everyone who had a ship at sea grew rich because of that city’s high prices. In one moment it has been destroyed!’ Revelation 18:19

the economy-—

The merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her because no one buys their cargoes anymore—cargoes of gold, silver, precious stones and pearls; fine linen, purple, silk and scarlet cloth; every sort of citron wood, and articles of every kind made of ivory, costly wood, bronze, iron and marble; cargoes of cinnamon and spice, of incense, myrrh and frankincense, of wine and olive oil, of fine flour and wheat; cattle and sheep; horses and carriages; and human beings sold as slaves.

They will say, ‘The fruit you longed for is gone from you. All your luxury and splendor have vanished, never to be recovered.’

The merchants who sold these things and gained their wealth from her will stand far off, terrified at her torment. They will weep and mourn and cry out:

“’Woe! Woe to you, great city, dressed in fine linen, purple and scarlet, and glittering with gold, precious stones and pearls! In one hour such great wealth has been brought to ruin!’

Every sea captain, and all who travel by ship, the sailors, and all who earn their living from the sea, will stand far off. When they see the smoke of her burning, they will exclaim, ‘Was there ever a city like this great city?’

They will throw dust on their heads, and with weeping and mourning cry out: “’Woe! Woe to you, great city, where all who had ships on the sea became rich through her wealth! In one hour she has been brought to ruin!’ Revelation 18:11-19

I cant read that Rapture Ready site myself, I’ve tried, its one of the most spritially closed off, willingly blinded websites I’ve come across relating to bible prohecy,

However, this author is even more in the dark,

Jesus said, “the Law and Prophets were until John” thats farily straightforward for a division,

2 Peter 3:3-11,

3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,

4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,
