Amazing Grace: The Story of John Newton
Here is a trustworthy saying
that deserves full acceptance:
Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners
of whom I am the worst.

The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me,
because the LORD has anointed me
to proclaim good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom for the captives
and release from darkness for the prisoners
Isaiah 61:1 (NIV)

As we celebrate this January 20, 2014 as Martin Luther King Day
may we also remember all those who advanced civil rights
before, including, and after Dr. King.
The American Revolution of 1776 started with young men and women.
(Thomas Jefferson was 33 when he wrote the Declaration of Independence,
while George Washington was in his early 40s.)
And after the American Revolution in England,
two youths - William Wilberforce and, William Pitt, the younger
took on the wrongs of the establishment and abolished slavery.
A timeline of Civil Rights can be found here - American Anti-Slavery and Civil Rights: A Timeline in Context

Heavenly Father
May Martin Luther King Day reminds us of the struggle for human rights inalienable rights that are given only by You, our Creator. Likewise, may we pause to recall the bold, audacity of youths, who have been and still are totally committed to serving You. Meanwhile, we are grateful for the wisdom of elders, who have been and still are mentoring the next generation.
We thank you for Your Providence in turning the tide of evil in human history. One example is John Newton, a great sinner, who found His Savior and forgiveness for his sins which included his involvement with the slave trade. But this great sinner penned the words to an amazing hymn Amazing Grace. And the elderly John Newton inspired two young men William Wilberforce and William Pitt to take on an impossible cause abolishing the lucrative trafficking of human souls in their land. Your Amazing Grace empowered them to give them the victory.
And in our day, Heavenly Father, give us a vision to continue to right the wrongs in our land. Give us the courage to stand in the gap and be a voice for the weak and the politically powerless. May we hold all those who abuse their powers accountable to their Creator as well as to the people they profess to serve.
We ask for Your mercies to protect our athletes - our youths - that represent us abroad. Give them the spirit such as was given to William Wilberforce and William Pitt to testify to Your goodness and grace in a dark world.
Likewise, protect our heroes, many young men and women, committed to defend our country, our sacred values such as freedom, and to preserve that which is good in the world. Guard them from all enemies outside our borders and most of all, from the enemy within. Bless them all with Your Amazing Grace!
In Jesus Name we pray,
Amen
Keep praying for America

Please join us in praying for America, our American heroes, our Youth, and our Olympic Athletes
(William Pitt, the younger, serving at 24, still remains the youngest prime minister in English history)
St. Pauls encouragement to a youth:
Dont let anyone look down on you
because you are young,
but set an example for the believers in speech,
in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.
1 Timothy 4:12 (NIV)
