The Divine Office: The Elect
The Examiner ^ | 1/22/14 | Joseph Speranzella

By an utterly free and mysterious decree of his own wisdom and goodness, the eternal Father created the whole world. His plan was to dignify men with a participation in his own divine life. When in Adam men had fallen, he did not abandon them, but ceaselessly offered them help to salvation, in anticipation of Christ the Redeemer, ‘who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature’. All the elect, before time began, the Father ‘foreknew and predestined to become conformed to the image of his Son, that he should be the firstborn among many brethren’.

But the plan of salvation also includes those who acknowledge the creator. In the first place among these there are the Moslems; they profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and along with us adore the one and merciful God, who will judge mankind on the last day.

This is utter nonsense and Christians should be ashamed of promoting this heresy. There is NO salvation apart from Christ by which men may be saved.

To spew such rubbish is to abandon the faith.

Logical or semantic error on your part here, Harley.

To what are you referring? I'm often guilty of both but I see nothing in my response that would indicate this.

Act_4:12 And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

People can't just put their faith in whatever they want. Anything that states this is heresy-at best.

God can save people in spite of their errors, though. If he so wishes.

Here Harley.. look at your statement:

>>”There is NO salvation apart from Christ by which men may be saved.”

Now post the exact part of your cite that contradicts it.

I think you’ll see.

I cannot believe my eyes. This is absolute nonsense. These are people who have heard about Christ and, in some cases, are persecuting the Christian churches in their countries. And yet people here have the nerve to state, “Well, God can save them in spite of their error.”??? I’m surprise Elijah didn’t make the same statement about the priests of Baal instead of hacking them to bits.

Sorry. We could discuss God’s grace and mercy with the unborn or people who are incapable of understanding. That is a different issue. But these are not those type of people. These are people who stick to their faith and are persecuting the church.

What God has written He will not violate. There is only one way to heaven and that is through our Lord Jesus Christ. There is salvation in no one else. And this may come as a shock but if God chooses to save a person (as you’ve suggested) then they will become a Christian. Of course people here speak out of both sides of their mouths. On the one hand they say that it is man’s free choice to decide whether to come to Christ. Then, on the other hand, they say God saves people. Well, which is it? I would suggest people here get their theology consistent.

It is a disgrace to read in Catholic journals and see Catholics (and some Protestants) stating that people can be saved by believing in just about anything including Puff the Magic Dragon. I would suggest a refresher course in Christianity 101. It may be helpful to include the Pope on this as well.

Hmmmmm...there must be something here but I just don’t see it. It is worded a bit odd so I’m assuming that you’re reading this differently than I am. It’s probably in the syntax.

I got it (after reading it 25 times). :O)

Rather redundant and I repeated myself. ;O)
