The culture war may be lost and religious liberty might not be that far behind, according to a new survey from LifeWay Research, the research arm of the Southern Baptist Convention.
Seventy percent of senior pastors at Protestant churches say religious liberty is on the decline in the United States, and 59 percent of Christians believe they are losing the culture war. Eleven percent considers that war already lost.
The survey results are staggering – indicating grave concerns about the moral direction of the nation from both the pulpit and the pew.
Ten years ago we were talking about who would win the culture war, and now we’re talking about how will Christian rights be protected after the culture war,” Ed Stetzer, the president of LifeWay Research, told me. “We’ve lost our home field advantage. There are going to be some things that are different.”

I think you know that there’s a difference between Christ our Lord and a wise and learned man as our king.
The left prefers the wise and learned man. It’s why they support powerful bureaucracies and governments.
The congregation of every church in America should have flooded Washington, D. C. after the Roe vs Wade decision and not left until the ruling was changed - even if it meant lost jobs, lost houses and starvation. That was the day Christians lost a voice in the America culture for good. I remember Dr. James Kennedy of Coral Gables, FL in one of his messages stated that he did not know if we had met the line of God’s patience in America after that decision or had crossed it. I think we know now.

What a lot of people get wrong is that Christians were not, for many years, persecuted for believing or professing Christ.
It was failure to make sacrifices for the State and the Emperor that were regarded as treason. The Romans wouldn’t have cared two figs for someone proclaiming Christ The King; but you’d better pay your taxes, and failure to make sacrifices for the health of the state was regarded by all patriotic Romans as risking the wrath of the gods, the equivalent of urinating on our flag.
Justinian (ineffectually) and Diocletian (with his customary great efficiency, pragmatism and cold blooded patriotism, however seemed to genuinely
dislike Christianity. And Nero, but that was more needing a scapegoat than any particular focus on what Christians believed.
It was the refusal of Christians to make sacrifice that got the State angry. Jews were the ONLY people exempt from having to make sacrifice (they could make sacrifices to their God FOR the health of the empire and emperor), but the Jews were originally treaty allies of the Romans and, even admits the strife, one thing the Romans respected was antiquity and the Jewish religion was old. Thus the really huge implications of the ‘were Christians Jews’ question. As soon as Christians said they were NOT a subject of Judaism AND refused to honor the emperor as a God, they became not merely traitors but a literal lightning rod for the Gods to zot the entire state.

Who said that? I tried searching it but nothing comes up. Is he talking about the quote from Cardinal George or what?

In one sense, yes. Christianity no longer can use the coercive power of the state, or the bestowal of coercive power upon the head of a household, to inculcate and enforce its moral norms. Much of what we think about Christian family or Christian community relied upon that coercion, and it’s gone.
In another sense, no. Christ preached to give to Rome what it Roman; the Gospel is ultimately about the choices one makes about one’s own conduct. The impiety of your wife or your children, the impoverished nastiness of Hollywood moral code, the the gay married couple living across the street, the naked public square ... very little of this keeps you from honoring the Beatitudes, for example.
The only institutions and rights that survive are those with organizations strong enough to defend them. Take a stroll through the Bill of Rights and it is obvious the government/rats have repealed nearly every one.
Our precarious 2A rights would have been gone long ago were it not for the NRA and similar groups that exert political pressure to preserve it.
Christianity is in decline because the rats will not accept an institution higher than government, and Christian churches have not effectively organized to fight pagan government.
