In a Friday morning Fort Worth Star Telegram article by Bud Kennedy, we became aware that Tea Party leader Julie McCarty has opposed a local candidate for criminal court judge because “he is a Methodist…Methodists tend not to take a stand on issues – anything goes.” She explained why she is supporting another candidate in the race: “My preference is a straitlaced Baptist to an everything-goes Methodist.”

Early in our nation’s history, our Founding Fathers decided to be free of the destructive denominational wars of Europe. They knew firsthand the dangers of sectarian conflict and sought to prevent this nation from the horrors that continue in the present day in countries like Bosnia, Syria, and Nigeria, to name but a few

The old denominations have gone theologically and politically liberal. The candidate in question would do well to issue a position statement for clarification.

The Methodist Church has turned into a communist “anything goes organization”... Methodists themselves... not so much. I am an EX Methodist.

The Methodists for all their obfuscation still had the power to force the Duke administration to call off their dogs on the LaCrosse team at any time.

They can still veto any candidate for the Duke board of trustees. Which means that while they have given up control of the University in theory...they still retain control when push comes to shove.

Tells you a lot about where the church is now.

Here’s the problem with conservative UMC churches. They’re the ones who keep propping up the High-level leadership (who believe in Christ as much as Castro or Chavez did). By giving a dollar to a “good, bible-believing, Conservative UMC church”, you’re funding the Sandinista Relief Fund, Abortion Clinic Guards to keep girls from rescuing their babies from being murdered, etc.
