A taboo is something that is vehemently forbidden based on moral judgment and religious beliefs. When confronted with a taboo, we do not consider breaking it. The line is drawn so clearly that we dare not cross it.
Incest is a good example. It is condemned in every culture. The idea of sexual relations with a sibling or ones child is abhorrent and rejected as a matter of course. We are horrified by it. We recoil from it. It is off the table. We totally close the door to it.
This keeps us out of trouble.
The power of taboos reaches beyond visible behavior. They also do their magic in our hearts and minds.....

The female form is oft too much like art to ignore. Look but don’t touch pending appraisal. Peruse the museum, but love only one.
“Rose Of My Heart”.
I am thinking about a major religious cult that allows an older man to marry a little girl, say 6 or 8 years old...
I expect the NFL to take up this topic next. 15 yards for lusting.
LOL, while wearing pink all season long with the team name written out in Spanish.
No, the NFL will enact rules against insulting taboo breakers.
Taboos are so medieval.
The sex positive agenda as led by Reich, Kinsey, and socialist feminists seeks to end ALL moral judgments on ALL sexual pairings regardless of sex, age, relation, marital status, number, or species of partner(s).
Your tax dollars fund this agenda through academia and the medical profession.
It is the objective of Planned Parenthood’s SIECUS “sex ed” organization.
They are anti-abstinence because they see it to be an “unhealthy” suppression of sexual desires. Do as tho will.
To them, orgasm is a birthright to be enjoyed at every age in an every circumstance.
Positive.org has a “just say yes” campaign aimed at minors with the statement that there are just too many fuddy duddy types telling kids to say “no”.
LOL ... you guys are good!
Go on, during the Clinton error, NOW came out and said that the first grope is free. Democrats wage a war on women.
As St Paul said, “I would not have known LUST except the LAW said ‘Thou shall not covet.’”
So, lust is coveting something that someone else has. It can be a person’s wife, his cow, his donkey, or his field, or anything he has that you can’t get but want so bad it affects your health.
AHAB lusted for a field so bad he got sick, so Jezebel got it for him.
David’s son Amnon lusted for Tamar, and a kingdom was endangered. It was said that if Amnon had asked David for her, David would have given her to Amnon, but NO, Amnon lusted for her till he had consumed his lust, then rejected her.
True LUST eats away at your soul. Just looking at a beautiful woman and desiring her is definitely NOT Lust, but wishful thinking.
Seeing the beautiful wife of a neighbor, and desiring her over your own wife, constantly thinking of ways to steal her from her husband, and allowing that wish to eat away at your soul is true lust.
A friend bought a brand new car. Another neighbor, who could not afford one, became so jealous that he destroyed the car one night.
You might say that LUST is jealousy at it’s worst as you want what he has but can’t find a way to get it, but you won’t let it go.
You know, for all the flack he’s taken for his confession, he’s really only admitted what is common place in men.
It’s hypocritical for everyone to judge him for his honesty as I’d wager that every single living adult has done that very thing at some point or another in their lives.
And that does include women....
Things that are accepted as taboo can be totally acceptable in Scripture.
We have God’s law. Adding another layer of man’s law doesn’t do anyone any good.
I wonder how long it will be before we have the Dallas Rainbows?
I’m a hot-blooded, raging heterosexual American male and make no apologies for it. I wouldn’t trade my very lovely and thoroughly awesome conservative lady for any woman in the world, but I’m a normal male and yes I notice beautiful ladies. No law by God or man will ever change that. God, in fact, created me this way...that’s why ‘no apology’.
I don’t stare or comment, as that would hurt my girl’s feelings and I try never to do that.
Jimmy Carter lusted in his heart.
>The idea of sexual relations with a sibling or ones child is abhorrent and rejected as a matter of course.<
So was sodomy at one time. But now that same-sex-marriage has become the law of the land it has become acceptable.
With time, incest will become acceptable, too.
An inordinate craving for pizza while knowing that the calories contained by it are detrimental to one’s health.
. It is off the table
Really? Nothing is off the table any longer.
With the homosexuals gaining ground against society every week, transgenders infiltrating the schools, etc. Most Churches cowering in fear and going along to get along. Pedophilia will not be a crime within 25 years...........
Here is the best definition of lust I have seen: http://www.overcoming-lust.com/articles/understanding-lust/
I agree with you. He did not bring it up as a pass either, but to explain higher standards and grace. It was not an “I smoked but did not inhale” dodge.
“Pedophilia will not be a crime within 25 years...........”
That will depend on if there is a federal judiciary. If there still is, you are probably right.
I have a hard time criticizing someone for that kind of honesty. There isn’t enough of it.
I find it easier to forgive his kind of sin than the pride involved in lying to cover it up.
