A gay rights group will be allowed to march in Boston's St. Patrick's Day parade, event organizers said Saturday, reversing a 20-year-long stance after the city's new mayor intervened.
It was unclear, however, if marchers from MassEquality, one of the largest gay rights advocacy groups in Massachusetts, would be permitted to carry signs or use slogans identifying themselves as gay men and women, which may yet prove a sticking point.
"We don't ban gays, we just want to keep the parade an Irish parade," Tim Duross, the lead organizer of the parade that celebrates the city's Irish heritage and honors military veterans, said in a telephone interview on Saturday.
He cited parade rules banning political protest and references to sexual orientation, suggesting that MassEquality was established enough not to have to explain who they are.
"Everyone knows who they are," he said. "They're a good organization, they help LGBT veterans, and if they help veterans they're OK with us," he added, using an abbreviation for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Don’t wan’t to click on the link but I assume the NYC St. Patrick’s Day parade is remaining strong on this, i.e., no homosexualist activism in their parade.
Children and families watches parades. How are they sad? They have entertainment within the parade for the kiddies.
Homos have their own parade. Why do they have to muck up others?

Boston Mayor Martin Walsh is a Roman Catholic. Does anybody think he’ll suffer an admonishment from Sean Cardinal O’Malley, one of Francis’ “Gand o’ Eight”?
Carinal Sèan will be too busy marching with Mass Equality to concern himself with reprimanding Walsh.
AFAIK, Mass Equality is not satisfied to simply march under a banner - not good enough.
They want to march with gay pride on full display. Marty’s threat to skip the parade (like Mumbles before him) is unlikely to have any impact.
Like I said, I think gay people in a parade is a good thing. Homosexuals are a different matter entirely. They aren’t gay. They are homosexuals. Words mean things. “Gay” has a very specific definition, and it has nothing to do with sex of any kind, much less homosexual behavior.
Nobody should be hijacking the parade to push their agenda with free publicity.
If they want a parade pushing homo *rights* have their own.
Obviously. Even so-called conservatives now accept the redefinition of the word “gay.” In my post #2, I pointed out that gay and homosexual are different That truth was met with resistance. How dare I suggest that the word “gay” could ever be used to describe something other than homosexual acts and those who commit those acts? It’s disheartening to see support here for the homosexual agenda.
You think casual readers will understand what you meant?
Just use the term homosexual. This is the proper term to describe them. When you play semantics, you're already accepting their premise.
Let me try this again. I will replace the slang word meaning something of poor quality (no, it wasn’t a curse word, and yes, it is used here frequently) with a milder, though less accurate word. As silly as it would be to remove the post for that commonly used word, I’m sure that must be why the moderator removed my post, because the alternative would be that the moderator disagreed with my opposition to the homosexual agenda. I can’t imagine a Free Republic moderator actually supporting the homosexual agenda, so it must have been my use of that unpleasant, though accurate word.

What? Try reading what I wrote, instead of making up [things] you wish I had said. You can call them “gay” all day long, but you can’t make it true. You can call their perversion “marriage,” but that doesn’t make it so. It isn’t a matter of semantics. Those words have actual meanings, whether you like it or not. Pretending homosexuals are happy and gay and married will never make it so. Why would you even want to pervert those words in the first place? They are homosexuals engaging in homosexual acts. I’m not going to lie about that by saying they are gay. I’m not going to cover for them by lying about what they are.
