The JESUS Film has been officially recognized by The Guinness Book of World Records as the Most Translated Film in history, and is now is available in 1,197 languages.

In addition, more than 200 million individuals worldwide have indicated a decision to follow Jesus after viewing The JESUS Film. This story of the film s impact over the past 35 years will be shown through an exclusive new short feature narrated by actor Ernie Hudson and available on the re-mastered widescreen DVD. The disc includes The JESUS Film in a total of eight languages English, Spanish, Mandarin, French, Vietnamese, German, Korean and Arabic.

I just received notification from Amazon.com that mine will be delivered this week. It is also available in Blu-ray. I have shown this movie in video format for years (I guess make that 35 years) at my church. It is excellent.

According to their website: http://jesusfilm.org/

Every eight seconds, somewhere in the world, another person indicates a decision to follow Christ after watching the “JESUS” film.

Every eight seconds... that’s 10,800 people per day, 324,000 per month and more than 3.8 million per year!

It’s been seen BILLIONS of times and led 200 MILLION people to Christ. I saw it on the internets, and they can’t put stuff on the internets that isn’t true!

Back in 1984 I had a microfiche version, 84 slides and a cassette audio track, that we used in a solar powered briefcase projector. It would throw an image of up to about 4 feet x 6 feet on the whitewashed wall of a mud hut or a bedsheet.

Since the audio was entirely from the book of Luke, if you had that translated into the local tribal language then you could have a translated sound track.

We’d show the Jesus film way out in the Kenyan bush. Several other groups have made backpack projection units specifically to show the Jesus film.

“Pocket Projector and Mini-Pack
It’s a mini-video projector, speakers, rechargeable battery, everything needed—and it all fits into a compact case. Ideal for reaching audiences of up to 100 people. “

Are you still a missionary?

“It’s been seen BILLIONS of times and led 200 MILLION people to Christ”

I’ve heard missionary testimonies of entire villages coming to Christ via the Jesus Movie. But even if it led just ONE to the LORD, the movie would be worth it.

The Jesus Film is a good take but like all films that make a priority to stay exact and non-deviating from Holy Scripture, the film presentation is bland and fails to bring flesh and blood to the real life people that witnessed this incredible happening.

Still ‘Jesus Film’ does a service to bring the story, actually the history, without the human drama fully developed to those who have never heard the story or read the scripture. And so the Jesus Film passes the story precisely true to scripture to a newcomer as a prelude to understanding the actual drama of that time and importantly how their own souls would have fit into the actual witness.

But another film, an actual masterpiece brings all the drama to bear so that its viewers ‘feel’ the spiritual conflict inside them rather than merely recording the sequence of events as recounted in scripture.

This timeless masterpiece of a film is ‘Jesus of Nazareth’ of which my review is given here:

Description and comments on Zefferelli’s masterpiece:

and links to its parts are given here (these videos are of good quality):

I understand the importance of sticking with literal scripture but I also understand the importance of learning about the spirit of not only Jesus but of the people around him. We as mere flawed human beings cannot identify completely with the person of Jesus because he is infinite and we are finite. But the Zefferelli masterpiece allows us to be vicarious with the people around Jesus as if we were there and to help us understand ourselves and what we would be like had we been present with Him.

I am also reminded of how Apostles and Gospels write in Scripture that many more stories of signs, wonders, teaching of Jesus could be written but it would take thousands of Tomes to fill them with the complete accounts. So sticking with scripture is fine but we are allowed to extrapolate to what is and what is not Christ-like; it’s risky but it can be done and has been done well especially when it passes through strict review of reputable Christian historians and scholars.

The film ‘Jesus of Nazareth’ is spellbinding on the soul.

The Jesus film has been translated into so many languages with documentation of salvation. It has been used on the mission field as a witnessing tool. I have donated for years to the Jesus Film project through the Campus Crusade for Christ ministry that goes into all areas of the world including the desolate and dangerous.

I am sure the film you are talking about is a great movie, I know my sister highly recommends it.

We still do a bit of village development work, hand augered wells & thin-shell concrete dome homes & churches, mostly in Belize these days. We also look for ways to create local jobs, to show that God is the Lord of the sabbath and the Lord of the workplace.

“Serve one another with the particular gifts God has given each of you, as faithful dispensers of the magnificently varied grace of God. If any of you is a preacher then he should preach his message as from God. And in whatever way a man serves the Church he should do it recognising the fact that God gives him his ability, so that God may be glorified in everything through Jesus Christ. “ 1 Peter 4:10 JB Phillips translation.
