SAN FRANCISCO, CA, March 31, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Speaking with LifeSiteNews about the matter of worthiness to receive Holy Communion last week, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone said that Church teaching on the matter “has been very clear and consistent from literally the very beginning."

The Church's teaching goes "all the way back to St. Paul who writes in 1 Corinthians that anyone who does not receive the Eucharist worthily, that is if they are in a state of sin, blasphemes the body and blood of the Lord," the archbishop explained.

Those that dissent from teachings don’t usually ask for communion anyway. Because they don’t go to church.

So, what’s the archbishop going to do about it?

Maybe your right, but then again, there’s probably many who were raised with Gods truth and there hearts are not completely hardened. They know they are wrong, but maybe feel they can’t control themselves like the world tells them. They need help and seeing they will be disconnected from God may make them stop and think about what they are doing. Maybe get help.

I think this is directed towards politicians like Nancy Pelosi, who make a big public deal of being Catholic, while at the same time never missing a chance to defecate on Church teachings.

Nancy Pelosi goes and receives. She even received in Rome. There are tons more like her in Congress and elsewhere. It causes confusion and distorts the teachings of the Church. I wish she would be excommunicated, or at least publically banned by every bishop in our country.

The cool thing about Christian churches is that if you disagree with the teachings of one sect, you can stop going to their meetings and attend somewhere else, or start your own.

I think there is a lot of truth to that statement. Also, my wife and I take communion at home after meals, as was done in the upper room.

One of the amazing things about Christianity is that its foundational teaching can be taught through something as simple as the symbol of communion. It’s pretty hard to screw it up.

Dear albie,

Would that that were true.

There are many prominent Catholic politicians who attend Mass and receive the Blessed Sacrament who embrace doctrines and teachings far from the Church's.

Many Catholic politicians openly and publicly dissent on the Church's teachings on abortion, other sanctity of life issues, the homosexual agenda, etc., who ostentatiously proclaim their Catholicity, and who insist on receiving the sacrament.

In the archbishop's own archdiocese is the example of Nazi Pelosi, the venomous baby-hating pro-abort moral horror who has stated that abortion is sacred ground, who nonetheless claims to be a Mass-going, faithful Catholic.

Apart from prominent folks like Pelosi or Biden, many ordinary Catholics who are at Mass in the pews, week in and week out, disregard the Church's teachings on a range of issues, including artificial contraception, abortion, homosexuality, etc.

Dear utahagen,

Nope. Sorry. No credit at all.

The fact is, most bishops have been mouthing these lines for a couple of decades, now. Nearly none have done the hard thing and ban from receiving those who give public scandal by publicly embracing baby-killing.

God has given us free will to sin. The bishop has done his job. If the “faithful” wish to receive the Eucharist despite this affirmation of his, they do so in direct disobedience and further condemn themselves.

He doesn’t have to be the cop and stop the person, but to counsel the person and the choice to free will mortally sin is always theirs. While he doesn’t want Christ desecrated, he also has to allow us free will to love - or offend - God.

It is a tricky line between knowing a sinner ought not receive and being ignorant of whether a sinner can receive. He cannot see in their hearts - it is a matter of the own person’s free will to love or offend God.

He’s just reminding folks - when you’re on your knees and then walking up....you can turn around or receive - God’s mercy extends there to the venial sinners, but not this day for the mortal sinner - seek confession first - change your heart. There’s always that “lump” in the throat moment where you again examine “I am a sinner, and He allows me via His Mercy, but have I gravely offended Him?” That’s what the bishop is counting on.

Even if it is to confess to God first, then to a priest.

They come on Baptisms, First Communions, Easter and Christmas. Many go every Sunday who don’t accept Church teaching, some are priests and nuns.

A lot of politicians go to church as a show for the unwashed.Even the low info types would notice Pelosi being turned away from communion.
