Pastor preaches God in Los Angeles' toughest neighborhood

By Christopher Snyder

Published April 11, 2014

What would compel a pastor to move his family to move to one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in Los Angeles? For Pastor Todd Grant, it was a belief that God wants him to serve and preach the Gospel in an effort to help change lives.

Another fatherless boy down the tubes.

They are the bane of our society, no matter what color they may be.

I almost met mine in that neighborhood. Once, when driving through Watts late at night on Imperial Highway on the way home from the airport (long before the freeway, just to the south, was built), I saw a 1954 Buick coming straight at me from head-on. Our '66 VW 1600 would have been no match for it. We both swerved in time, but I figured the driver was one of the locals who was trying to get from the bar to his home by osmosis.

I have met Todd a couple of times.

He’s ready.

John 5:24
“Verily, verily, I say unto you,
He that heareth my word,
and believeth on him that sent me,
hath everlasting life,
and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”

I must ask you in all humility: Are you ready?

You know, if he wants to do that himself, that’s his business. But if he’s got kids, he’s making them a target. White kids in a lower-income, mostly black neighborhood and school... that’s just cruel. And asking for trouble.

(1) He’s been there for several years.

(2) Can anyone guarantee the safety of anybody’s kids ANYWHERE???

Guarantee? No. But you do what you can, normally.

In reality all of the people in Watts are God's children and Christ died for them just like anyone else...

God has the power to transform their lives from the inside out...

A revival of God's spirit within these people will be far more powerful than any democrat / liberal plan or program...

Minor correction: Wilkinson=Wilkerson. And yes, God called him and God said he would protect those he calls until HE says it’s time to go home. David Wilkerson was a true man of God, humble, striving for holiness, teaching the Cross and against ALL sin - even those that hit pastors and the church.

The Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson is no newcomer to Los Angeles and its community.

See his information HERE.

In the early 90’s I was a firefighter. After the Northridge quake in ‘94 our crew was sent from Tahoe to do S&R and disaster relief. We stayed at Kendren Mental Hospital on Avalon blvd. We were all white in a sea of dark faces. For the most part the people were thrilled to see us. The least friendly were the cops who were telling us that every night someone was shot in the neigborhood. You will be hard pressed to find a more willing group of victims than the people down there. It is so sad to see that the first thing an American does is go looking for someonw else to fix their problem rather then help themselves and their neigbors. Certainly many were in need of assistance, but Watts was hardly hit. There were some great friendly people, but sadly they were in the minority.
